That's a nice guitar! Gretsch guitars are great. Never let go of that woman.

It's incredibly nice, almost too nice haha! I now have that cliche "trifecta" of an LP type (SG Standard), Tele (tele), and hollowbody in something more than entry-level models. If I feel like I have GAS ever again, I'm gonna smack myself and ask her what new shiny she wants instead.

I think this color is more appealing to me than the Clist option. Something about the Jetson's look doesn't seem to fit the LP niche. but thats just me.
    I like yours better

I love the coloring. Are those PAF pickups? Congratulations, it's sick.

Well, I got a unfinished telecaster body and neck on the way. Just ordered a set of Bareknuckle (medium output) pickups. The winter build has begun.

Have yet to decide on the color scheme. Maybe a black burst. I just did a sunburst. Sunburst would look good, but would like some variety.

Any binding on the body? What fretboard variety are you thinking? Without those answers for a first recommendation, maybe a translucent/washed out black would look good rather than a burst. Like the old blonde finish, but black.

If you wanna go dark but less of the modern shredder style, maybe a dark purple. Painted or washed out could be done very dark, look black most of the time, but gleam like royalty from the right angle.

I have two teles, but if I get another one I want it to be purple so maybe I'm projecting...

No binding. Really don't like scraping them. It's a kinda a flame maple top, but with some knots and figure. Not to perfect flame from left to right, just spots of it. It's an interesting piece of wood though. Also chambered. The rest of the body is Alder.

Neck is also maple with black inlay dots figure through out. I don't think there are side markers, but I can always add those. I should take color nicely and finished in Truoil.

Normally I have a plan, but I bought all these parts out of boredom as I am stuck home with covid. Was planning on a new build and why not a tele?! Seems to be a ton of parts for them like strats.

Haven't decided on the wiring yet. Got some Bourn a and b250k pots and .022 cap.

Hmm, some figure and some knots makes the finish tough to guess about. Post some photos when it arrives. All I can give you is opinion like I already have haha. The classic maple neck simplifies things, everything looks good with a maple neck.

Are you finishing the body in Truoil too? or just the neck?

I have a parts tele I slapped together with a 4-way switch, the last spot just adding the series option to the standard scheme. That's as fancy as I'd go with a tele. Maybe a treble bleed but those are super easy to add any time. I'm on the bridge pickup most of the time, middle/series sometimes, rarely the neck alone if ever. Both in series is cool for a kind of fat boost thing but it removes some of the tele vibe. Tele bridge pickups are just so damn magical that I find they do it all.

Why not a tele indeed! Conversely, why anything other than a tele!?

This is the body. I have one concern, so not sure if I will keep it. The figure looks awesome though. IMG_20220929_143212.jpg

Yes. Truoil on all of it. I also use leather dye.

The grain on that is very cool; would be interesting to see it with the flame popped.

Truoil is awesome; that's what I use to finish my cabs with. Sometimes if I want a little amber, I'll used boiled linseed oil first; give it a few days to cure; then top coat with a thin layer of truoil. (Usually I just use straight Truoil though).

I love truoil. The feeling of it. Great for guitars, plus you can repair it by just wiping it on if you don't like the finish. Those are good tips. I got some boiled linseed oil I was thinking of using for a matt finish trick I saw where you apply it with sandpaper.

Yeah, if I get that flame to pop it's gonna look pretty good.

Would be a kinda reverse sun burst. Black in the center fade to blue.

I do like the idea of a black pickguard.

Dunable guitars has some pretty interesting flame maple schemes.

This scheme has my interest. I think it would really highlight the figure. But a variation of this. Doing then entire body completely in dark dark brown and then sanding off the the top and back, and then doing the burst with a nuetral center.
