can recommend Stringjoy enough. custom gauges and fantastic customer service. also the Gorgomyte fret/ fingerboard cleaner cloths are amazing for those who do their own maintenance and hate dealing with fretboard polish and steel wool.

My friend since grade school drove down from Indiana for vacay so we went sightseeing and did some light jamming.

On a bad note...one of my 6l6 power tubes is cold to the touch and not glowing at all.

 

on an a Mesa you can pull the pair and it should operate at about half power.

they're paired as inner and outer sets.

Mesa tubes are good, but they're just rebranded Ruby tubes that fall into their specs.

for my Mesa Trem-O-Verb, i ordered TAD 6L6GCs from and told them they were going into a Mesa and they picked out tubes with the correct tolerances.

 

Great. Yea, was reading about the inner and outer being matched but I also read if I pull the 2 middle ones, I'll have to re bias again.

I ordered a duet pair from motor city music on reverb.com 3 days ago and the bastards still havnt shipped them.

Called Sweetwater this morning and my hookup up there said he'll have me a pair before 10am tomorrow.

 

you won't have to re-bias. Mesa amps are fixed bias. if anything, you'll have to pull a rectifier tube (if you use them, i find most people use the diodes), and it might sound better mismatching the impedance (8 ohm into the 4 ohm tap, 16 ohm into the 8 ohm tap).

there was a Mesa support page that corroborates that info, but i can't seem to find it at the moment.

also depending on age of the tubes, you might want to change out the whole quad.

 

I'll pull both middle ones after bit and switch it to diode. 2 tubes are coming here in the morning but the other tubes are being shipped to my folks in Indiana. Headed up that way tomorrow.

no problem.

essentially Mesa just biases their amps colder than most so power tubes don't get hit too hard. Mesa branded tubes all fall into a predetermined current range (i think between the 25-40mV range). anything within those specs will be good in a Mesa, anything out of spec could result in a harsher high-end or a muddier gain sound.

when i was touring a lot, i learned how to tear apart amps so i could service them in the van in an emergency. i like being able to pass down some music knowledge. even if it's on a truck forum. hahah.

Same with this VH1 guitar. I only stopped in Sweetwater because my folks are moving to Ohio in the fall and this was probably my last time being in there.
I didnt even bother Tyler about it. Just asked another about a discount.

Sadly, That was probably my last stop in that place. I loved wandering around there.

Just sent these 2 bad boys off to be completely refurbed by a company out of Washington.
The one on the right, I purchased in 1990. The one on the left, I found on reverb.
100% original with box, battery, remote, power supply and guide.

Both are non functioning and need caps on the main board and daughter board replaced.

NIN used the digital distortion on a couple albums.
The 9002 was revolutionary back in the day. Super stoked to get these back and functioning 100%.
