same... i keep a mini Martin and a notebook near the couch in case i write anything cool, but other than that-- Maiden and Slayer gallops while watching cartoons. :headbang:

practicing timing is probably the biggest thing that's helped me over the years. i try and practice to a click/ metronome whenever i can. i keep a little one with a headphone jack in my backpack for solo practicing whether i'm on the couch or at our jam room.

What do you guys think about this amp for a beginner?

    https://www.guitarcenter.com/BOSS/K...541&gbraid=0AAAAADtcCuyDMXXRICmV6oLWilT96iNTk

I was talking to the guy I’m learning from and he recommended it. He said its probably not a good idea to go out and get a tube amp head & 4 x 12 box just because 1) I can’t really crank it up where I live 2) Tubes can go bad randomly & are expensive 3) The space a stack unit will take.

    What do you all think?

    Dood, that's a 100W amp...great amp, but 100W!

I've got a Boss MKII Katana 50, and it's plenty. Nice part is with either you can govern down the wattage to .25 and .50 output if ya want less window shattering without giving up tone from the amp working hard to get it...

Again, great amp and the modeling is great. Good software, amp does everything as advertised. Check out the Katana III 50 before you commit to the 100.

    Can't go wrong either way

I appreciate the feedback. Looks like I’ll just have to decide between the 50 (1x12”) or the 100(2x12”).

In Canuckistan we call $100 bill a brownie, cuz, it's brown. Ya, monopoly money.

I remember being up in British Columbia yeas ago and they called the one dollar coins a “looney” and a two dollar coin a “Tooney”. I’m not sure if the guy was messing with me or that truly is how it was/is.

That is a great amp. I would suggest the 50 watt version. If you’re just looking for a home practice amp, the positive grid spark 2 is amazing. If you plan on jamming with a band, get the boss.

Been on my 12 string lately. New strings and it sounds AMAZING.
Still trying to sell my Epi Les Paul.

I'm in the process of getting pro set-ups done on mine. Got my LP and Strat done already and my Martin D10 is in right now. Last but not least will be my '84 Ibanez Roadstar II Deluxe, my very first guitar. I think Matic would abide.

I've had a few Martins, along with a number of other brands.

My all time favorite, the legendary bare bones Martin D18. I saw Doc Watson in a smallish venue around 1971 and he was playing one....I was hooked but could not afford one for many decades.

I purchased other cheaper dreadnoughts but when I finally did buy a D-18 I realized how much time and money I wasted not buying one far earlier.

Mine on my work bench with a Doc Watson album I had before I saw him. I think he is holding one in the pic.

I was looking at a D-45 replica on TEMU for 300$ but decided against it.
One day ill have the funds to buy a used Martin.

    good decision

You don’t need the bling of an expensive Martin to get the Martin playability and legendary tone. That’s why the D-18 will never go out of style.

A D-18 would be on the Mt.Rushmore of acoustic guitars! After many years, I scored an exceptional 000-18 a few years ago. Bliss....

If I were looking for a reasonably priced acoustic leaning towards the Martin flavor, I would take a serious look at the Recording Kings. Not easy to find at shops for a test drive is the only down side. At the same time, there are tons of really good acoustics now days at reasonable prices. Both Martin and Taylor have pretty strong contenders in their economy price points. Ya gotta play 'em!
