I’ve got to quit “innocently” strolling through Guitar Center. I love perusing the used gear, but it is like the saying goes...

“Hang around the barber shop long enough, and you’ll end up with a haircut.”

I have played a few Squiers, here and there. Usually no big deal. I have to say, this particular Squier sounds and plays like Fenders costing $1000 more than the $250 I paid. If you get a chance to play one, don’t pass it up. It’s a signature model, the J Mascis Jazzmaster. Huge tone. Makes my strat sound thin.
Didn’t even think about how it would match my amp, until I got home with it.

YES! I actually sold my Fender Jazzmaster for one of these. The Squire is nearer to the original JM spec than the "Modern Player" series. It reminds me of my Japanese JM*, but with a fuller sound.

*The Japanese JM's didn't have actual P90 pups, rather, they were underwound and more similar to Strat pups.

I got my first Jazzmaster in '04 after strumming one in a shop. I'd only owned Epiphone and Gibsons with humbuckers and never been too interested in single coils. I went through the pickup selections and thought "I never knew a guitar could sound so pleasing!" I bought a red JM and a blue Jag from a limited Japanese run. The Jag was junk but the JM was dreamy. I sold it along with all other guitar gear after leaving a band. I bought a drum kit with the $$. A few years later, after going through some 15+ guitars trying to find that magic again, I pickup up the Mexican made Fender Jazzmaster. The pups were too hot, the neck was different, and I never bonded with it. I sold it and picked up the Squier model and have enjoyed the heck out of it.

    Two notes:
It's good to go ahead and replace the stock bridge with a Mustang bridge to keep the strings from jumping around on the bridge. Also good to get shielding tape and shield the pickup cavity.

    Several of these on reverb.
Looks like people are buying them and parting them out.

Wouldn't mind trying one out but I ain't throwing $450 at a new one.

Too bad, it was a cool looking guitar. I liked the color. Now you can save up for something else you probably shouldn’t buy. LOL

Shame it's a lousy guitar because it really is pretty.

Regarding your earlier question, Dots are semi-hollow bodies and don't have the bridge that attaches at the base of the body. That'd be the give-away with this one.

Speaking of Dots, I'd have absolutely no use for it other than as a wall hanging but I would love to get my hands on a Studio version in mahogany. The look is just perfect.

The weak points were the necks. They were really thin. I'd have the neck removed and truss rod inspected before buying.

Yea. I passed on it. Really great shape for a 71 Epi and I could have thrown some money at it but it was all cheap parts.

I think it was more of a Riviera style.
