    Who has a high mileage a 4 cylinder? How high? What's you experience? Auto or manual?

    143k and counting on my 05. It's a manual. Very few problems. Clutch slave cylinder, drive shaft U-joints (factory joints are sealed on a 5 lug), and sway bar bushings are all I've replaced aside from the mods I've done. I've just changed the fluids regularly and spark plugs according to the maintenance schedule. About every 5k I run some Seafoam through it. I use Mobil 1 or AMSoil in the engine, AMSoil and now Redline in the tranny, AMSoil and now conventional in the rear end (added mechanical LSD), the Toyota premixed coolant in the radiator, and OEM spark plugs. Honestly the biggest problem I have is getting my tires balanced right on the aftermarket wheels.

    stock.....for now...
    Toyota 4 cylinder...high mileage?? No such thing as a high mileage 4 cylinder toyota...just a regular 4 cylinder toyota.

    With that said....

    My 1997 3rz 2.7L, manual 5 spd...189,XXX...replaced a radiator, rack and pinion...and thats it....other then preventative maintenance.

    SOLID motor.

    bilstein set at 1.75, Racho 5000 rear with 4 leaf kit, floor mats, high lift jack, pull hook in hitch, bed rail corner braces, severe duty brake pads and devil horns on the grill....
    Better yet, I bought a 94 five lug, new, five speed, 4 cylinder. When I sold it at 217k, it still never had the drive shaft or valve cover removed. Rear axle, including rear brakes never replaced, (I replaced ONE wheel cylinder after breaking off the bleeder screw when changing brake fluid), never removed the radiator or water pump, ball joints and tie rods were original, as was the alternator. What caused me to get rid of it was a transmission popping out of gear.

    I never had a vehicle as cheap to maintain, and probably never will again...However, I did do PM's including yearly changes of gear box fluids.

    I did have to change the coil once, due to a rusted bracket causing a damp day miss...

    If they would sell the pre-95 style truck again, I would certainly buy another 4 cylinder, but this time in 4 wheel drive.

    My wife's old 96 had almost 170K when it was bought back. Brakes, tires, AC condenser, the exhaust manifold..all I can think of and she bought it near 100k.

    She had one before that, not sure of the year but it was pre-Taco. Bought with 100 and ran to 200k. I think she did a major brake job and tires. The bed was rusting out as well. A friend of hers at work bought it and put a wooden bed on, ran it near 300k and it only needed a radiator..was still running when he dumped it.

    In high school a mutual friend's buddy had 250k on his (early 80's model). It rolled into the harbor near us and was almost totally under for 20 minutes. Started right up after he had it winched out.

    I'm at 251k on stock internals on a 2rz. Never been apart. It runs as good now as it did when it had 150k. Its not been drove easy since I've had, it had 150k on it when I got it. Still don't burn a drop of oil or make a noise one. I've kept the oil changed every 3k. Its been ran at the 1/4 mile track every summer since 2009. Its indestructible! So far I have a k&n intake, maf calibrator, stage 2 clutch an short throw shifter.

    206,000 on my 01'. Spark plugs, AFE filter, manual tranny, just put 16's on it. Don't want to brag too much, it seems to always haunt me later. Newest one I have had since 92. Had a 90 that I bought with 70k on it in 1996 drove it till 2006 had 220k showing but drove it for a year without a speedo. Sold it to a guy that was shipping them to Mexico and the British Honduras, the only thing I had to do was one clutch and a syncraniser (sp) between first and second, kept popping out of gear. Didn't drive it hard but did use it like a truck should be used.:)

    This is the base model stick shift Tacoma today, that I bought brand new in January of 1996. :)

    I've never owned such a reliable vehicle except for the 1988 Toyota pickup truck before it. I'm anal about oil changes and driving a vehicle easy and it has rewarded me with 17 years and 158,000 miles of flawless service. It's had seat covers on it for 17 years so the original upholstery is pristine.

    The body of my '96 Taco is just short of 144k. (Not very high for a 96, I know.) Just did a rebuild not even 30 miles ago, because the dude that owned it before me absolutely trashed it. I bought it like that, rebuilt it with my best friend. I don't understand how the previous owner could beat the shit out of this truck so bad. Hey, I don't mind though- now I have a flawless (mechanically, not aesthetically) truck. I have no doubt that this truck will serve me well in the years to come.

    That's something I'll never understand...

    ...why people abuse the machines which serve them. It just doesn't make any fucking sense. Might just as well take money out of their own pockets and set fire to it. :confused:

    Even my older cars that I had in college I took care of, and some really were pieces of crap. Reason? If I break it, that means I have no way to get around. All the more important now that I have 2 jobs and a parent that needs help.

    I had a 95 for a while an when it turned over 300,000 miles I sold it, I had repainted it an did all body work, sharp truck but the people who bought it beat the hell out of it an trashed it also. It was a nice truck i should if kept it.

    Me neither... why beat the shit out of your ride? What are you going to do without it? I can understand being rough with a truck (ie, offroading, driving hard,) but I can't understand downright neglect- no maintenance, letting severe problems ride, etc.

    But hey, I can't complain too loudly- if people didn't treat their vehicles like crap, I'd have never gotten my Taco. :D

    '97 2.4L 4 Cylinder 265xxx miles on the original motor. Not a single major replacement under the hood. The original muffler rusted off a few days ago though! Just replaced it. lol

    A guy at my work had a 98 I believe and I know it has 325 on it. It's 5 spd 5 lug. It's his driver to keep the miles off his tundra. I know this isn't a tacoma but I work with another with 340 on a tundra. They both commute daily to work.
