Any idea how to remove end cap on leer track?

Hey guys I have a leer shell with a Yakima/thule track, I found some cross bars I want to install but I need to remove the end caps I tried to loosen the little Allen screw but it just spins, I’m assuming I have to hold down the bottom from inside the camper shell but I don’t have anyone to help, is there any other way? Thanks

 

@IEsurfer, that’s correct. Pop the black cover off to expose the nut. It’s inside a cup washer, so kind of a PITA to get ahold of it.

FWIW, with a step ladder and mild cursing, I found I could get the rear screws off without help.

Another option, eTrailer sells replacement track nuts that fit into the slots and then “cam” into position when you tighten up the foot bolts. Try searching “Thule Tracker II replacement nuts” or similar.

Get some long vice grips and clamp them onto the nut so that it pins against the side of the topper when you turn the screw from the outside. Or put a short 90 degree allen key and pin the end from spinning using the roof track, then turn the nut from the inside.
