I've no idea what this is or what purpose it would appear to serve. Wasn't on my '16.

    Anybody know?

Is that for the new ejection seat option?

Had no idea what you're trying to ask about. The hook? For support during installation/removal I'd assume.

Hell, I hope not. Be a bitch to get under the hood in any sort of scenario where you might need to eject safely.

It aids the installation because the union workers contract said it was too heavy.

Lifting points for assembly. Someone probably hurt themselves or dropped one on the line at sometime lifting by hand.

If that's the case, I suppose Toyota assumed you'd need a crane to remove a few pieces of plastic and metal lol

Well it must be the Fast and Furious option for climbing on the hood!

So a minuscule extra bit of weight is all it appears to be then. Seems about right for a modern vehicle ;)

Could be that some seal or external part was consistently getting damaged while installing that they designed a way around it. Or too heavy etc. Definitely designed for ease of mfg imo.

Well folks, we'll mark the hooky-do as solved. It's an install bracket added on by Toyota. (Probably) because someone in assembly dropped one on their foot at some point and the union said "wahhh"

I'm satisfied with this, and thanks for all the responses!
