Any ideas on how to prevent this from getting worse?

Because corporations are short-sighted greedy corner-cutting assholes who all have business plans to perpetually increase the profit margin despite degrading the quality of their products and brand reputation.

I have a 2018 and I started noticing the dreaded rust specks all over the truck when I went to wash last week. It’s a Super White in color so very noticeable.

I read in a tread here about using a product called “IronX” to easily remove. It seems that that rust started as “rail dust” from train transport or just metal specks picked up from normal driving.

So while Google searching found several YouTube’s on the subject. I started seeing people state to just use simple wheel cleaner as it’s cheaper and has the active ingredient.

One of the recommendations was for Meguairs Ultimate Wheel cleaner. I used this as directed but instead on the truck itself. It’s PH balanced and paint safe.

I was amazed at how easily it remove the rust!

Another product called “Bilt Hamber wheel cleaner” seemed to do a better job in the videos but I would have to order it. So just got the Meguairs.

Yeah IronX is great! Unfortunately this is beyond that however. I’ll check the Meguairs out. Thanks!

Agree - but - chemistry of the steel (read $$'s) have a lot to do with rusting. JMO

My 16 did this with rockers full of Fluid Film and little to no salt contact. It’s something that happened to my 14 also.

Mine too. Fluid filmed twice a year since new (2016) and the driver side rear rocker is bubbling and pitted with rust.

Is that just for factory paint? Or can you not buy a better aftermarket paint?

Depending on what state you live in, you can still get solvent based paints, just not from the factory.

Solvent paints go on thicker than water based paints to get the same result, this is where people have good or bad views of the paint. Some say the ticker paint of the solvent version can take hits better than water based, others say water based looks better. When it comes time to repaint my truck, I will probably go with a water based paint and then put protection film over the areas that get hit.
