Any Input on Trail Gear Lift Kit??

    Hi All,

    I am looking at installing a lift on my Taco in the coming months, and I am considering Trail Gear's 3" lift kit for 05+ Tacomas. I am aware that this will lead to more of an aesthetic lift rather than performance, especially when compared to other more heavy duty kits like Icon or OME. I don't do much wheeling with this vehicle, save the odd rip in a friend's field or a mild trail day. As such, I am more concerned about a decent lift set-up that allows me to fit some bigger shoes on too. With all that in mind, what do you guys think of this setup? Has anybody had good or bad experience(s) with Trail Gear? Let me know!

    Looking for a complete kit for better ground clearance on your Tacoma? Trail-Gear is now offering a Tacoma Complete Front & Rear Lift for the Toyota Tacoma 2005-2013 Prerunner/4WD. This lift kit includes our Tacoma Front Spacer Lift, 3” , Tacoma Rear Add-A-Leaf 2”, and our Tacoma/FJ Cruiser Differential Drop Kit. The Tacoma Front Spacer Lifts are made from CNC-machined 6061-T6 aircraft grade aluminum and are anodized black to prevent corrosion. The Tacoma Front Spacer Lift includes Class 10.9 bolts for the top spacer. Our Tacoma Front Spacer Lift will work with stock shocks and many other shocks and will add 3” of lift in the front, levels the truck, and eliminates the factory rake.

    Our Tacoma Rear Add-A-Leaf comes includes plastic anti-friction pads installed and two zinc-plated leaf spring center pin bolts. Our Tacoma/FJ Front Differential Drop Kit is made out of solid aircraft-grade 6061-T6 aluminum and zinc-plated Grade 8 hardware. The complete lift will also include our new Tacoma Driveline Spacer Kit. The Tacoma Driveline Spacer Kit is made out of 5/16” thick zinc-plated steel. Longer M10 mounting bolts are included in the driveline spacer kit.

    at or above 2 inch lift in the front you will need UCA's so factor in another 400 at least.

    Do yourself a favor, get some 5100's for the front n rear, set em at the 1.75in setting in the front, get a 2in AAL for the rear, and call it good.

    Sounds like that could work for you. You going to do this your self? You have a pre-load spacer and a top plate spacer- going to stiffen things up but add a little work to the install. I wonder how long that AAL is? usually the longer it is on length the better the ride(so if your comparing lifts). As mentioned you get to that 3" level and you may find that it will not come into alignment with out the A-arms being replaced. You can see my lift link in my signature when I did a 2.5" top plate spacer.

    Aren't the 5100's simply shocks? Would I run them with my stock coils? If so, how exactly would that achieve the lift I'm looking for (2-3") without the use of spacers? I understand the AAL in the rear giving lift, but I don't understand the front portion..?

    I would be doing this either with the help of a friend who has all of the necessary tools, or I would just bring it down to my mechanic depending on how much time I have. How do you like your vehicle with your 2.5" spacer? Did you have to modify much else other than simply adding the spacers up front?

    the 5100's [for the front] are ride height adjustable. The lower spring seat has 4 different settings (0, .85, 1.75, 2.5 in of lift). Use your stock coils to achieve those numbers

    Putting in a top plate is not to hard to do, installing the additional pre-load spacer takes a specialty spring compression tool that you can rent. I did this completely by myself and took the better part of day. There is nothing more that needs to be done than what is in that thread- install the lift, then do an alignment. I waited a week on the alignment letting everything settle in. For what I spent on it, it is the best mod I have done. The ride is still factory like but i am also only 20K miles on the truck. I dont know how many miles are on your suspension-(shocks)- but if it is coming up time to replace them --then the 5100's maybe a better route to go.
