I have not owned a dash cam yet. So.....by my understanding, on newer cams, they have a G shock mode and motion sensor to turn on and record (with motion) and then to save the file so it cannot be over written with a shock (hit and run ). If you actually want this to record 24/7, you could hardwire to a constant voltage source instead of wiring to ignition sourced voltage.

I gotta confirm details, part of the reason I did not review the DC yet is parking mode is a mode coming soon. From my understanding it will use a 3 wire (batt, acc, ground) style hardwire cable so when your car shuts off it will go right into parking mode. Based on the processor I know it won't be pre buffered parking mode like blackvue or thinkware. Lemme confirm with him what I can though.

if people are really looking for the pre buffered parking mode that blackvue and thinkware has I would look at those cams. I am gonna see if someone else would be willing to do a group by for those cams too.

street guardian puts video quality over other features so traditionally their cams have had much better video quality but don't have all the bells and whistles of some korean cams. But those korean cams like blackvue and thinkware typically have lower quality video.

personally if i were you i would make sure to note the difference in parking mode though since you already have the f770. the street guardian will have better video quality but from what he is telling me at street guardian, the parking mode will be much more basic. so the street guardian is cheaper and has better video but lacks buffered parking recording. if you have the f770 hard wired you might disappoint yourself going to the street guardian if that is what your expectations on parking mode is now.

still waiting on pricing, he is at CES right now so sort of busy. also sent out a message to the blackboxmycar owner to see if he would do a blackvue dr750s-2ch and thinkware f800 pro group buy.

thanks for the info, I don't have the f770 yet, i just ordered it 2 days ago from Amazon. I will look into the street guardian parking mode, I thought they will have a firmware upgrade to address this.

Yea I was just updating on it in the original post. its not to say the f770 is better or worse. but their parking modes are different. I personally like having the pre buffered parking mode, I use a thinkware f800 pro in my tacoma currently. But I do worry about the video quality not being as good as some other cams such as street guardian or the A119, so I use a secondary A119 up front because it has great video quality and all I need it for is recording while driving too to make up for the F800's video quality. but the A119 is a budget camera that has no wifi and some other questionable design features I personally didn't care for like the GPS mount. I know most people would not want to do some sort of multi-cam set up like I do though. i literally use it just because it has good video quality and nothing else special about it really.

While thats my over kill solution, I do think if people are ok with just a time lapse parking mode and want better video quality, the street guardian DC is probably the better option. It really comes down to personal preference.

but i am confirming with him that it is time lapse. I know for sure it will not be pre-buffered recording due to the novatek processor it uses not being capable.

this is from my update to the first post:

[UPDATE]: So I wanted to update on some of the things. I knew about some of this stuff but wasn't sure if it was public knowledge yet so I had to clear it up. The DC does have a parking mode but it's not "activated" yet and will require a 3 wire cable. I asked him this: "so when your car shuts off, switches to time lapse, when its triggered by possibly motion or g sensor, records a higher frame rate clip for certain amount of time before going back to time lapse?" and his response was "Yes something like that or more" so thats about what you can expect with the parking mode. It will require a ~$30 hardwire kit.

Also the DC does have WiFi, its another feature they didn't advertise because they were still testing to make sure it works and fine tune the app and firmware. So at some point the models will all have their WiFi functionality added via firmware update.

I've been using the Street Guardian SG9665GC and its predecessor for a few years now. My only complaint was the battery in the predecessor couldn't take the heat of the desert and
failed. Camera still works when tied to 12v just fine. Street Guardian gave me a hell of a deal on the Street Guardian SG9665GC which used the capacitor and I have had no complaints at all.
I'm interested in this because I really want a dual camera set up now.

Ya the sg9665gm used a battery and since that model they won't put batteries in any cams. Not sure why they did in that one even. Probably cheaper at the time when they were just starting up.

Knowing how they did the v2, v3 and now the x2 I would bet a future bundle will include the hardwire kit. But the parking feature and kit are still TBD. My bet is they would sell it only separate at first then next winter bundle it for the same price or something like that. Just my speculation though based on previous year models.

Ok I'm not too familiar with dash cams so let me ask it this way. I just want the camera to come on and record is something happens like a hit and run so I can possibly get evidence and a plate of the run vehicle. Doe this camera do that? I don't need the 24/7 style recording.

Edit: I just saw another one of your posts so I take it that the camera does do this with the $30 wire after update.

Hey guys still waiting on pricing for the street guardian cams, but I talked to the owner of blackboxmycar and he is willing to do a group sale for the thinkware f800 pro and blackvue dr750s-2ch too. The deal may not be as good as people are hoping but I'd like to hear what you guys say anyways. 1-15 people would get 7% off, 16+ would get 10% off.

The blackvue dr750s-2ch starts at $329 with a 16gb card, but hardwire kit (or dash cam battery) cost extra. This cam supports up to 128gb card that is an add on option.

The thinkware f800 pro starts at $329 but without the rear cam, but a 32gb card is minimum. Blackvue offers a cheaper hardwire kit than thinkwares though as its just a cable, the voltage protection, timer, and high temperature protection is built into the camera. Blackvue only has the timer and low voltage protection cut off built into their power magic pro hardwire kit, their battery pack and the cellink battery pack do not have timers built in.

Personally I think the thinkware f800's parking mode is better because it is has the timer and voltage protection built in allowing you to still have the timer regardless of a simple hardwire kit or the cellink.

but the blackvue does have far better cloud features so if you are looking to install a hotspot in your car full time the blackvue would be the way to go.

I will post more information in the original post as I get more details. I am trying to confirm that discount includes all add ons.
