So this is the list so far, I believe we have 13 people for the blackboxmycar blackvue/thinkware group buy so only a few more to get the 10% off. There are quite a few people who are unsure but many of them could get both group buys over the limit. sorry for the guys waiting on street guardian, the street guardian usa owner was trying to figure out how he wanted to do the group buy and was considering mass drop.

if anyone did not read my other posts or updates, the way blackboxmycar plans on doing the group buy is once we get a final list, he will send me a link for a $20 down payment. once the down payments are all made, he is going to activate a coupon code for us that will be 10% off the entire order including any memory cards, hardwire kits, batteries added to the order.

If i have any mistakes let me know, I know some of you messaged me which is helpful so i can keep track easier. I would like to give everyone on the unsure/unknown list a decent chance but I also don't want to wait too long either so maybe we can try to get the final list done this week. if this goes well there could be potential for group buys again in the future anyways.

NOTE THIS IS NOT THE FINAL LIST, SEE PAGE 1 FOR THE OFFICIAL COUNT THIS WAS JUST AM UPDATE AND WONT BE UPDATED.

just got prices for the street guardian cams:

    SG9663DC 1-10 orders: $30 off the camera
    SG9663DC 11+ orders: $60 off the camera
    SGGCX2 1-10 orders: $20 off the camera
    SGGCX2 11+ orders: $35 off the camera

so unlike the other group buy, this would just a flat rate discount.

still trying to find out how the orders will be placed since he wants to make sure people commit to the group buy and wants to avoid using any 3rd parties such as massdrop or Amazon which would take a cut of the sale too.

Is S&H extra? If we can get 11+ for the Street Guardian SG9663DC, I am in.

i am ironing out the details with the rep from street guardian, looks like if we go through their site the shipping is free if you buy either of the cams we are doing. he wanted to do it through their own site so they can give a decent discount without Amazon or mass drop taking a cut, so it will likely be some sort of coupon code. seeing if he can do it like blackboxmycar where there might be a small deposit which will be refunded once the 11 or more people purchase it.

seems like the retailers are just afraid of giving a big discount but then a bunch of people backing out. but the margins on these cams arent super high usually so its not like some items where you pay for labor. hoping we can figure out a way to make sure they feel comfortable with the level of commitment without having to make everyone jump thru too many hoops.

blackboxmycar is still planning on doing the refundable deposit route, he asked if I had any other better idea and TBH I dont except through 3rd party sites that take a cut (which makes it harder for them to give a decent discount). never tried organizing a group buy before.

I am talking to street guardian right now, the idea I ran by him to avoid using 3rd party would be selling a $20 down payment. once the 11+ people buy the down payment "item" he would give us a coupon code. the $60 off would actually be a $80 off coupon since you would have already paid $20. hopefully we can do this, because having to do a refundable downpayment would be extra steps I would like to avoid.

running this buy blackboxmycar too hopefully he responds today. i asked if instead of refunding the $20 deposit if he can just give another $20 off on top of the 10% off. that way we don't have to dick around with refunds.

I would consider getting the dual SG if anyone has good feed back for mounting the rear inside the cab looking through a cap? I don't want to have the possibility of ruining the rear cable if it ran back there, and would likely occur for how I use the bed.

i ran a rear cam to the back of my truck cap. its not too hard. I have a brief video sorta showing how I did it. I wired it down under the plastic floor trip to under the carpet of the passenger seat. there is a firewall where some wires come out. I pulled the wire through then used some cheap plastic tubing from walmart to shield the wire. used zip ties to wire it back to the back of my truck along the frame, then it comes back up right at the tail gate. it was surprisingly easy and I have never done anything like it before (skip to 2:25 to skip all the intro stuff about the cam):

i would really really highly recommend taking the time to wire it to the back of your truck topper. it will be leaps and bounds better then the cam trying to look through the topper:

I did check out your video OP. Between the dog riding back there and me getting things in/out, I think I would have the cable shot in a short time. I spend a lot of time outdoors so firewood, axe, shovel, camping gear, etc. going in/out.

From the Youtube the Street Guardian SG9663DC has the speed you are doing also with the date on the videos, correct?

yea i guess thats your call, personally i feel like its possible to get the cable tucked out of the way. i made sure my cables have no slack and never hang down. i too use my truck for outdoorsy stuff, pulling camping boxes gear, firewood etc in and out. mine goes straight up to where there is more wiring for my toppers LED lights too so its not the only wires I would need to protect.

i just don't think you will get good video if you mount the rear camera to the back of your cab. its already a bad view even if you don't have a topper because the truck bed puts such a big space between the camera and cars behind you you can't read license plates well if at all. so with a topper its going to also have poor lighting. another issue i would be concerned about is reflection. cameras often have CPLs to cut down on glare from the windshield, with the set up you are talking about it would have to see through separate windows to see out the back. this is just my opinion of course but i wouldn't recommend buying a high end 2 ch system if the rear channel is going to be gimped so much from the topper.

i have done quite a bit of camping/light off roading and never had any issues with my set up:

don't mean to be rude and pressure you but I think it would be possible to install it much better than mine too to prevent the cables from any damage from your dog or gear coming in and out. I consider my job half assed and its held up lol.

i actually havent gotten to use it yet, hoping to get it to review once the hardwire cables are out. but i would assume you can turn the speed and time stamp off like most other cams. maybe not the time stamp but the speed is almost always an option because they know some people don't want their speed shown (even though you can calculate speed based on the video).

although I should point out, the DC rear cables are mini usb but proprietary so not any mini usb cable will work, extensions won't work either. it comes with both a 3m and 6m cable which is just shy of 20 feet. the 6m cable if you ever did have to replace costs $30 so it ain't cheap!

What alternate options exist for the SD cards for the Blackvue that would not have performance issues? Any tested/confirmed options?
