Would want it thin in t he bed against the front wall closest to the cab. 10 gallon. Not sure why it would be illegal.

This thread is to find a solution for a gas storage container that would be DOT, EPA, and for those in CA, CARB approved, so we don't get flagged down by the local authorities. Legal containers are also safe compared to jury-rigged solution. In other words, you can't just get 10 gallon milk container and fill it up at your local gas station here in the U.S.

I can’t believe I haven’t run into this thread before. I have been trying to increase my range past the current 270-some odd miles. I carry two 5-gallon Wavian jerry cans strapped in the bed. Less than ideal but at least I can empty cans into the tank and get another 150 miles. When in Death Valley, on the north rim of the Grand Canyon or on I70 in central Utah. Knowing I have an extra 10 gallons of fuel can make a trip much more enjoyable. I’ve been thinking of a combo fuel cell and tool box. A smaller version of this……

15 to 20 gallons would be my vote. I’d like to have the option of fueling ATV’s or topping off someone’s tank. Subbed for future updates.

I'm looking for an option when towing my camper to increase my range. The Truck dips down to 11 or 12 MPG with my 4500 lb camper. I travel with some bigger rigs with 30 or 40 gallon tanks and they look at me funny stopping 2 or 3 times to their 1.

Mostly stock with a few minor mods.
I vote for an extra 20. I hate stopping so often on long road trips and it would be nice to re-fuel the atv, moto, generator, or whatever without messing with leaky little cans.

Oh you could literally use one of the bed bolts since it's attached to the frame as a grounding location!

We have always used the extra
We have used a few different styles of tanks like this. They work awesome. They are offered in many different shapes and sizes. The one that I think would work the best for a Tacoma would be the 20 gallon size that is like 8" wide and like the height and width of the bed. The only thing that we have ever been checked for is making sure that the tank is bolted to the bed and a roll over ball is inside the tank. I know some states require that you have a separate pump like you see at the gas stations.

Kind of what I was thinking this way it will be bolted down to my drawer system and under the cap. I need to get the side windows turned into windoors first.

Have not touched base with this thread in a while but happy to see it's gotten some replies. I am actually one the mechanical engineers at Transfer Flow inc.

If we can get enough interest we might be able to build a legal refueling tank for our Tacoma's.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I voted for a 40 gal but maybe a 25 gal would be awesome. Perhaps bolted to the bed rail system and up off the floor. Let my truck be your guinea pig!
