My sister lives in Sac and just spent some ungodly sum on shipping some puppy out from bumfuck Ohio or wherever.

Don't be like her. Go find a nice free one from a shelter around town and give it a good home. Just my two cents

Before you adopt at the shelter, ask if it's one if those dogs who take the whole bed!

I don't know about this thread. It's making sense on Friday and hasn't gone downhill by page two. Something must be wrong. :)

All kidding aside, I love dogs. One of the reasons I have a truck instead of my former Nissan Leaf. And German Wirehairs are great dogs. Wish my first one were still alive.

I adopted my 8-10 month old at a rescue shelter out in Grass Valley at the time. He is an American Pitbull Terrier/ Staffordshire. That was back in 2017. I came in a broken man due to the prematurely early loss of my last dog and I just wanted my best friend back.

The shelter dealt with a lot of strays due to the nature of dog owners in the city and he was no different. There was and is a belief that most dogs there are seasonal to the owners, which makes me want to punch them in the face. Regressing back to the story, they (the shelter) did a fantastic job in making sure that I wasn't going to be some sort of dog abuser or use the dog for fighting based on a series of questions and questionaires they had me answer.

He was a high energy, rough around the edges dog, who had a wild nature to him and did not play with toys at all. To this day he still has that wild side to him that he had when I first met him, but can be incredibly docile as well. He just likes to play, and now he is even interactive with toys. To match my personality, even acts like a total clown too.

I left empty handed and came back with a fully grown Pitbull puppy doge. He has been my best friend ever since and even though he can be dense as hell and even frustrating sometimes, he has filled the hole in my heart I had.

My point to this story, is that you may search for months like I did for the right dog for you. They will not be perfect, and yes, they'll have some defects, and yes even as an adult they will have their difficult moments, but if you adopt from a shelter, one of the most rewarding things you can experience, is knowing that you rescued a living being from the possibility of a miserable life, or even euthanization. Don't be impatient, and don't stray from the course if this is the route you decide to go. The benefits and rewards far outweigh the negatives that comes from being a pet owner.

My advice is get a rescue or one from a shelter. Whatever cool factor you think you’ll have from a purebred pales in comparison to the gratitude and loyalty a rescue has for saving their life.

If you’re set on a purebred then do your research, save up a couple grand and get one from a reputable breeder not some fucking dirtbag doing it as a side hustle. The inbred and overbred dogs from those people end up euthanized and in rescues. Don’t encourage that nonsense.

This is my pup. From a litter of 8 found on the side of the road in a sealed box to die. Bottle-fed by Kreitzers Rescue and put up for adoption. No idea what breed he is but damn if he doesn’t get a compliment everywhere he goes. 100 something pounds of goof, and I couldn’t ask for a better dog:
