I have the Leer XL 100 cap, delivery took about 7 days from Leer East, installation took a little over 1 hr., cap fits great and color matches real good, this is the 2nd Leer XL 100 cap I have had, 1st was on a 04 Dakota - one minor scratch on a side window and one rivet missing on one of the crank out side vents, nothing major - I also have the removable front picture window -

Overall I would say it is a very good product -

I have an ARE almost identical to hoosiers cap and mine is flawless as far as I can see.. More thank I expected.. I guess its a crapshoot on the quality of the cap you get regardless of the brand.. Im super happy with my ARE..

just got my leer installed today. ordered it Oct 22, so right around two months, Illinois here. it Looks good, but the left side doesn't latch as well as the right side. I really hope it turns out to be a decent cap. theres no snugtop dealer that i could find within a few hundred miles, and the ARE dealer here really ticked me off, so I went leer.

The latch could be just a simple adjustment. I had a bit of trouble with my last one and it only needed to be adjusted.

    Hope it simple.

Wolf13 - I also believe that the latch can be adjusted.

We have had a lot of rain here lately and my cap has no leaks at all. The latches work fine so I definitely don't think that the quality of the product is bad. I just would like the customer service of Leer west to be better and get that freaking windoor replaced in a timely matter :)
I still have had no response to the message I sent them. Campway's told me today when I called them that I should have it Tuesday in a week. I have heard them say that every week for 4 weeks in a row about the arrival of my cap as well so we will have to see what happens.

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new 100XL Leer for my 2010 Tacoma Off Road.Looks great....BUT...terrible workmanship and/or design.Back cornors down at bottom where it meets the tailgate have such a gap,you can fitthe tip of your pinky thru it,and when you wash tht truck water goes right thru.Took it back to Leer dealer and he looked at me like I was crazy, saying that all turcks will get some leakage ..BULL,I just traded in my 2005 Ranger with a Leer and never had that problem.Reason I bought a canopy was to keep stuff dry in back..duh..!! So the dealer said he would order a longer piece of weatherstriping from Leer and see ifthat will fill in the gap...I dont see that it will and think its just a bad design..the fiberglass should be 1/4" more on each side to fill in the gap...
I wrote to Leer today, and will see if they reply.
    Anyone have that problem??
I'm really not a picky person, but the gap really is big,and I buy and sell books for a living and we all know wet books are worthless... :-(
    Thanks,
    Ricoman1

I bought my SnugTop at the same place you bought your Leer (Campways in Hayward). I went there specifically for the SnugTop but decided to ask about the Leer caps as well.

The Manager who was on duty at the time (Ron) showed me the difference in quality between the two. The weatherstripping and hardware components surrounding the back glass of the SnugTop was clearly superior.

Sounds like a mis informed dealer. Its not Leers fault it is a dealer not knowing his product well enough to inform you of the options and what will work and not work. Just saying...

If you are talking about the the sides where the fiberglass sides meet the sides of the flip-up rear window, I've seen that before. When I had a Leer cap put on my 2000 Tacoma, I had a very similar problem. I took it back to the dealer (Truck Tops in Santa Rosa, CA). The rep there was a great guy and he didn't give me any problem about it. He asked me to leave the truck for an hour and they took it into the shop and "Tweeked" the sides so that they were a close fit. This, in addition to trimming back the bed rug, as I mentioned earlier, solved my leakage problem.

With the cap I bought, there is aluminum trip around the rear window and that can tweak the sides a bit causing the sides to sit too far away from the window, slight pressure on it from both sides when the mountings are loose will bring the rear of the cap back into shape - at least that was my experience. It will be interesting to hear what the Leer factory customer service people have to say. Keep us posted.

I really liked my Leer cap. The 2000 Tacoma was my 2nd Leer and I would buy another if I decided to put a cap on my current truck.

    Hope this helps.

    Norm.

That makes no sense, why would leer assemble my top in the first place with that configuration when those two options DONT work together....

When a shell is ordered it goes down an assembly line so to speak and the window goes in before the box. The people on the line look at the build sheet and just do their job they assemble it as it reads its not their job to stop production for a window that will not open correctly. The dealer should have known when the cap was ordered that the window would not work as it is supposed to.

    Hi MMOCGuy,
YES..you got it correct..thats exactly where the problem is,and notonly does it leak bad,but looks terrible.I just spent 30K ++ on the truck and another $1300 on top and would hope for a nicer look....
I have a gap of 1/4" on one side and 1/2" on the other....I just went out to look and dont really see much room where they could tweek it and bring it in closer, since the overhang on the side of the canopy is already up against the body of truck...
I have not heard back from the ema I sent the LEER company, and agree with you, that a strip or rubber is not going to fix it.If I dont hear back from them by the end of week,I will be going back to dealer, telling him to take it off and do a charge back on my AMX card....Like I said earlier,I didnt spend $1300 for a top so my items can get wet in the back...Actually I'm closer to $1800 with tax and the Thule Roof Rack also installed...

    Hi Ricoman1.

Thanks for the update. I had roof rails installed too and insulation so mine was similar to yours in cost. On mine it also didn't look like there was enough overhang to "Tweak" the lower corners but they did it and it worked out fine.

Good luck with yours. I hope that Leer customer service takes care of you.

    Hi Norm,

sorry to bump this thread but i was planning on getting a LEER 100XQ or whatever the nicest model is and the dealer showed me the Leer 100XQ and the SnugTop Super Sport. All im saying is it was like comparing a Saturn (Leer) to a BMW (SnugTop) not even comparable... like you said the snugtop was far superior to the leer and i 100% agree.

It took 3 weeks for the windoor to arrive but once that was replaced I have not had any problems at all and hope it will stay like that.

Leer never responded to my email and I wasn't happy that it took 3 weeks for a new windoor to arrive but so far everything is good and I love my Leer.

I've had a Leer 180 for about 6 months now. No problems as of yet. Prior to this I had always bought ARE caps, but the dealer in town closed so no other options. Sounds like going to corporate is the way to get satisfaction. Good luck!
