Bought a 2014 TRD Sport 2X4 yesterday. Mainly for towing and just truck stuff, never thought I would want to go off road too much. How much exploring can a 2X4 handle. Not talking about climbing mountains or anything just some beach camping and dirt roads.

It'll be fine. Get better tires and take it slow, you'll be good.

Yes you can off-road just fine. Bring some traction mats and a shovel with you in case you get stuck in sand. Air down for sand. Do a little reading on driving on sand (momentum is your friend but don’t overdo the skinny pedal if tires begin to slip). With a little learning, thought and skill 2WD can go most everywhere a 4WD can except for the most extreme trails. Worst case you spend a little more time getting yourself unstuck every so often.

There’s nothing wrong about the 2 wheel drive, dependent on where you live. Once I move south, and get me a new one, that’s what I will buy. Oh! and that will be number 5 by the way.

Yeah, river wash is the worst by the way. Or at least from my experience.

Ill give you 85%. Because it'll be real hard calling a buddy with 4x4 to get you out on a Sunday :D

Any place you don't have to do research, know somebody, or accidentally stumble on a slice of heaven , you'll be fine

Tires are critical. I've got a couple of extra rims with some Duratracs mounted that I use for some extra bite in the rear when needed....though I mainly use them for snow not off-roading.

I have a 4x4 off road. I was driving it on 2wd mode and got stock in a really tiny short grass hill. These trucks are really light in the back, so you need to think twice before off-roading in a stock 2x4

I’ll agree with half of this. The part about it being fine. But I usually find myself going faster to make it through

Keep weight in the bed of your truck, either a camper shell or extra gear. Better rear wheel traction

    Really? Pretty straight forward.

Unless your best friend has a 4x4 no one is coming to bail your ass it on a Sunday and most people have to put work into finding good 4x4 trails unless you live in an area which is known for it.

OP already had said he won't be going places like that so not a problem.

    What does this mean?

Any place you don't have to do research, know somebody, or accidentally stumble on a slice of heaven , you'll be fine.

    LOL.

Unless you live in a place known for 4x4 these places aren't around the corner. You have to either look them up through research, contacting clubs, reaching out to other off road guys or explore a ton to out yourself on good trails. Every now and then you just happened to pass some good places or hear of things by luck.

Which again, OP says he won't be doing any of that so his prerunner will be fine

Bill Bill...that mat looks like it's about 2mm crooked and not quite aligned with that tire rack.
