it seems there is not a lot of discussion on this forum about the OME Nitrocharger shocks. People seem to use to use the OME springs and coils, but not so much the mid-grade shocks they offer.

What gives? Are the Nitrochargers not that great?

Compared to the Bilstein 5100's on my wife's 4Runner, I hated my Nitros on my Tacoma. I constantly wish I went Billies or something nice, such as Icon.

The Nitros were a stopping point I should have just keep breezing by.

Interesting. I have a 17 DCSB OR as well, so that is good advice.

If you don’t mind me asking, what don’t you like about them?

Stiff. They got better when I added some weight. I think a front bumper would have really softened them up some.

To compare. The Bilsteins were firm. Not stiff. Stiffer than OEM, but that's a good thing. The 4Runner was wobbly.

Sold the truck. Partially due to power/tranny. Partially due to wanting a larger vehicle for kids.

Off road the truck was a beast. I armored it and lifted and stuck some nice looking tires on it. I had a blast.

I would have kept it if I had regeared perhaps, but it still wasn't roomy for a child seat in the back.

Had I regeared it and really committed to it, I would have been changing out my shocks shortly thereafter.

I'd suggest a 6112 front / 5160 rear for maximum value. A 5100 front/rear for best price. And consider Icons/ADS/OME BP51s/Kings/Fox if you decide to just say *#) it and move on up.

However, HANDS DOWN, the best riding 3rd Gen I ever rode in was a ADS Suspension built for a 2017 TRD OR LB with a Dakar rear and some BFG KO2s in 265/70/r17. Maybe it was the long bed, maybe the C load BFGs softened it up some, but I think it was that suspension. It was incredibly smooth. I was shocked.

If you're all into OME consider the BP51s if you can handle the cost.

Hey thanks! I have those tires already so I’m a fraction of the way there. You’ve given me plenty to consider. I appreciate it.

I'm running the mids, 886's and coils in the front and the ICON RXT leafs and Bill 5125's in the rear and love the setup. Not stock bumpers as I have a Warn bumper and winch up front and a Fab Fours rear. So with the weight, my set up is handling what I throw at it very well. (also have Duratracs 285/75/16's)

I've had Nitrochargers since day 2 of my truck. Currently has 80k miles. They are at the very least as durable as the OEM components they replaced. I've been
satisfied with the ride. Performance has been good enough. They are not Icons, Kings, Fox, Radflo or BP51's, but for the $, they pack a lot of value.

Eventually I'll swap to something a little nicer(much more $), for longer travel, but for 99% of people they would be a great option.

    It's getting there.
I'm running softride Nitrochagers with 888s, medium duty dakars, and SPC uca's. I'm super happy with the decision.

Ok, so a little Nitrocharger love is trickling in. That confuses things.

I have them. I am very happy with them. I only got my Tacoma in February, it might be time for me to spend some more time on this site and upload some pictures.

And if anyone wants to chime in, I think that these shocks would be much harder to overheat and bust from washboard roads.

Been sitting on nitros for almost 2 years now. If you have the money to spend sure buy some high end shit with reservoirs. If on a budget you wont be upset with OME

Been running nitros for almost 10 years on various tacomas. Considered 6112s for my 2017 but ended up with another round of OME, old faithful. Glad I did.

Just got mine on and figured it would drive like a tank, but pleasantly surprised that the ride isn't too bad. Feels very planted on the road. I am looking forward to them wearing in and adding some weight on the front.

I have the 888 medium coils and the 90021 shocks with Dakar’s (3rd leaf removed). Lo-pro bumper, winch, sliders. I wish they were a tad bit softer as I find potholes to be a bit jarring. The original billy shocks were definitely softer/smoother. I sometimes wish I would have gone with different shocks but I would have to ride in a taco with the 6112 Billy’s before I switch to be sure. Both are good comparable reputable companies

Had the OME shocks on for 11k miles now. No issues and they ride just fine on road. Got home tonight from a 400 mile round trip drive from Seattle to Portland and back they were comfortable. No issues off road either
