It’s super fuckin tedious and they actually plan to make it rigorous by nature even though many many fields of nursing are not. Enjoy the first year where you do nothing fun but the basics which is your foundation really. Get your bsn too like you planned bc with magnet status being a big deal hospitals are soon requiring there nursing staff to be 80% bsn or better so they make more money from insurance.

    Thread jacking, sorry.

What about Environmental Engineers? Any of you out there? Currently about to finish up year 2 of about a million.

I’m in my third year of civil and about a quarter of my classes are environmental classes. I too have about a million years to go on this seemingly never ending degree

Definately need to be in a helping profession, I originally thought that was OT, applied for an OTD program back home and didnt get accepted, spent some time soul searching and more shadowing / speaking with other health professions/teachers and think nursing is a solid choice for me. Lots of flexibility and growth.

Part of my decision as well, I love Math, but not that much. Good luck. Roommates are electrical and mechanical engineers, both said thermo was the worst.

I had an acquaintance that was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) THEN went back for ME bachelors degree. He kept the LPN license as he put himself through school and afterwards by doing a few shifts here and there. When the economy took a down turn and he was laid off, he went back to full time nursing until he found another job in ME. I thought it was pretty clever of him to keep his license.

You can't go wrong with healthcare field IMO. I was lucky to get OT/PT degree in a school that offers two degrees in 3 years (if you try to get separate it will take 4 maybe even more but who would do that). Unfortunately, they stopped that Dual program. I love what I do but I've seen people who burned out over the years.

I was originally enrolled in OSU's (Oregon State, not Ohio) civil/forest engineering dual-degree program. After finishing my engineering pre-reqs in Bend, I wasn't too sure about the engineering direction and looked more into healthcare. I looked into PA programs, but needed 2,000 hours of clinical experience just to apply (which I didn't have at the time). I ended up finishing my transfer degree and completing pre-reqs for a BSN program in Portland. I'm back in Bend and have worked as an RN for over 3 years now. I don't regret the change in direction at all. I still like and respect engineering, but for me, the RN route was a better move. Biomedical engineering would be a cool combo!

The pre-rec's for the PA program is why my daughter worked for a year after her BS degree......didn't want to try for the clinical hours while taking classes. After that full year of 2000 + hours of clinical time, she was admitted to grad school

Great perspectives. This was my plan, either go back for MSN/NP or PA after a few years as an RN. Glad I went this route. Like I mentioned engineering is awesome, but the job market/growth is too iffy for me and after speaking with what ME's do on a regular basis I think I'd have a hard time waking up every morning.

Those were some of that factors in my decision, as well. Especially regarding the forest engineering route, I'm glad I went into this career path with the demand that it has.

I guess I take some of it back, we all have different personalities, interests, etc. I’ve been in the ER for some time now and a lot of people told me that’s part of the reason I hate healthcare. So I can only speak for the ER. I just flat out hate it, and I’m absolutely miserable. We get drunks, meth heads, people on 5150s.. I’ve had people fling poop at me, piss on me, vomit on me. Family member that yell because no matter how much you explain how busy it is they think their headache is a life/death situation even though they see you doing CPR on someone else. Your boss gets pissed because someone complained over a cup of water (true story, lady couldn’t drink water but it was the owners friend so that didn’t go well..)

I don’t know, I just don’t care for it. I’m tired of dealing with people.

I’m sorry bud. I did put down the deposit after getting accepted to Loyola’s ABSN program. I’ve spoke to a few nurses, one my cousin and did some observation time. I’ve also spoke to MEs who also hated their job (see above). Maybe a change of setting? Appreciate the input though, reach back out to me in 2 years lol. Nursing I see as a step for me to either my original plan as an OTD or maybe PA. I’m wired for a helping profession and of course a biology science nerd even with all I know about the suck I’m super excited about it. And nothing can suck as bad as active duty...

Do cath lab, or IR. Don’t get me wrong, I have friends that will forever do bedside nursing and they’re happy. The hours are amazing too. I hope to leave sooner than later but I will forever miss my schedule. I get 5 days off every other week lol. I don’t remember what working 5 days a week feels like haha.
