Just don't tell her I was talking about rubber duckies when I had the breakdown. Man, that would get out of hand quick.

OK, that Star Walk 2 app is pretty cool. Bet my neighbors thought I was an idiot (or confirmed it) standing out in the yard spinning in circles and looking at the heavens...

@Dave_M Yes sir, that would be it. They haven't posted details yet, last I heard they are still trying to nail down the route, but they did say travel on 3rd, if possible, run 4-6 and head home on Sunday.

@TerraNerva If it's not an LC only trip then I think we would be interested in making it. Let me know once everything gets finalized.

Will do. If it's a Toyota and has a transfer case, it's welcome was my understanding. Only hiccup might be # of vehicles allowed. Hope they'll be wrapping up planning soon seeing its only 3 weeks away.

ALERT!!! So with my squeaky OME leaf packs I sprayed them with white lithium grease this PM. After Chips WTF this weekend, I crawled around to nut&bolt what I could find that might be loose. Look what I found....the front spring hanger nut was missing and the bolt had backed out to 1/4” of coming loose. Pic is after I tightened it. The clean threads is how far it was backed out! First thing in the AM is replace the nut.

This was on the inside of the frame and wouldn’t have been noticed without looking for it. I also found and tightened other misc stuff, but nothing critical like this.
Lesson relearned, nut&bolt your trucks more often than you think necessary, you never know what you’ll find.

    Yeah.
Well that was close to being a SoCal brah moment. Maybe you found your squeak. Glad you found it and good advice.

I crawled around under mine tonight looking for coax routing. The 8 bucks in quarters i spent got most of the mud off, didn't see anything alarming and have some good prospects for coax routing. Will have a SWR meter if anyone wants a tune up next outing.

Great advice, and a good motivator to start carrying a large assortment of spare hardware in the truck!

    Yeah.
Or ten. Wait, it's only Wednesday. Check ground plane for cb antenna? Installing mine this weekend. Composite bed has me thinking about grounds....but at least I have a great spot for tuning SWR.

Just downloaded SkyWatch and StarView. Or StarWalk and SkyView. My neighbors already wonder about me, can't make it much worse.

    Yeah.
Looks like there are 2 different models, NGP (no ground plane) and regular. I bought regular, so I assume I need to care about the ground plane? I bought one ground strap just in case. I'm the guy that puts on that extra layer of duct tape just because.

In a pinch to get my CB trail ready for last weekend, I ran a light gauge wire to ground on the body and seemed to work fine, but still need to SWR tune it. It was that or remove the powder coat on my ARB, and umm, no. I ran across this:

    http://www.firestik.com/Tech_Docs/rack-mnt.htm

    For my Firestik II:

    http://www.firestik.com/Catalog/FS2-FS5.htm

What type of ground strap did you get and where, Mr. Beers? I need to improve upon my redneck engineering for a more permanent install, or I may just put a little solder on it and call it good.

    Yeah.
I bought this one, probably should have gotten 2 or 3 just in case: https://www.rightchannelradios.com/...roducts/grounding-strap-for-cb-antenna-mounts

It's only 6 inches long, but I have plenty of automotive wire. The metal plate to the side of the tailgate most likely connects to the frame in a roundabout way, but it is either painted or powder coated. Thinking I will go underneath and find a spot where I can run the strap between that plate and the frame.
