We're supposed to be going to see family this weekend but a lot of our route parallels levees. Hoping we aren't diverted.

 

Hope the levees hold. AR river will crest and break record from 1940's. Never been this high with the current lock and dam system. USCG and ARCOE has my section on high alert. And I'm supposed to be off.

 

Got the keys for the place I'm renting early this week, and my household goods were delivered this morning. So far just my old, particleboard bookcase died in the move. I also need to pick up some bug spray to treat inside and out. Killed a bunch of tiny spiders already, and I HATE spiders.

 

Been a busy few days. MS to see family Fri-Sun, got bees at our property Mon evening, and in DC yesterday through Fri.

Fully expecting to be assigned to floodfight when I get back. Hope everyone is staying safe and dry.

 

Been quiet on here, hope everyone is high and dry. My life has been at the State Emergency Ops Center since flooding started and will be till the waters recede, and then after that we get to deal with the mess. Cheers everyone, stay safe out there.

 

I have a group of guys from church that are looking for somewhere to volunteer Saturday morning. Where's a good place to find volunteer needs?

I'm going to ask our Emergency Management Office too but the bulk of our work (at least the type that I do) starts when the waters recede.

 

Most volunteers are assisting in sand bag and HESCO operations, mainly in Yell County and anywhere there are sand boils or irregularities in the levees. You may call ADEM and see if they have any volunteer information available for your area. I know all the Local OEM Coordinators are extremely busy so you may not get an answer at their Ops Centers.

 

Registered NGO's and Faith Based (SBC-Arkansas) groups can generally get in with a sponsoring group. All others are kept behind the barricades in support rolls only. They may also require CERT training.....
