I recently bought a house and am trying get some renovation stuff done before I move into it at the end of the month. I've got about 10 hours invested in popcorn scraping off the ceiling over the past few days. Obviously, crazy dusty. Strangely, I do enjoy it some...some. Maybe it's part dual-wielding tape knives and part knowing it's going to look so much better. Still leaves ceiling paint and the kitchen work, but it'll be sweet.

Working towards getting everything done and somewhat settled before it become camping/hunting/"let's just not be inside" weather. Hope everyone else is having at least as much fun as I am. :tumbleweed:

Ug. We did that before we moved into our current place. I wish I had seen this video before we did it.... or just been smarter.

I did that for a while, but I've ended up dry scraping it to leave a slight texture on the surface. It looks decent enough to paint on. The problem with the shopvac was that the tape on the knife would start to get loose, and I couldn't get consistent pressure. It's all scraped now except for one bathroom and a walk-in closet. The main issue left is seeing if I can match the scraped popcorn texture look over a patch I found in the drywall. It's...uhhh...maybe going to work. We'll see.

    I'm definitely no drywall guy.

    Yeah.
Man, already? Those hail predictions don't look good either. I haven't noticed any damage from the storm we drove through on the way back. At one point I nicked my right front wheel pretty good, but other than that and some more pinstriping, truck is fine.

Anyone feel the earthquake last night? Woke me up and rattled some wall decorations for a bit.

I haven’t noticed any damage either, but I also haven’t driven my truck since we’ve been back

If my house shook, I slept right through it. I got some new pinstripes from the willows while we were there, but looks like they'll buff out, hopefully, but I'm not too concerned about that since I have some that definitely will not buff out. I so wish we could be there for a nice snowfall. I was looking at some pictures from when I was at Colony Lakes in the Crestones back in the 90's. We woke up one morning to snow and was a cool experince. Meanwhile, it's 90+ degrees for the foreseeable forecast here....ugh.

So I took my fan clutch off and it’s very tight when compared with the other vehicles at the house. It won’t freely spin at all, where the other vehicles will spin maybe a half a turn or so. All at the same temperature...seems like it’s catching all the time? Not really sure why it’s acting funny. Gonna just get a new one anyway and see what happens. I wonder if I may need a new radiator?

    Yeah.
Get a flashlight and check it out. If it looks gunky/corroded, RockAuto has a new Denso for $93. A new fan clutch is either $80 or $87 depending on whether you have the tow package (non-tow is more?). While you are at it, a new shiny fan blade is another $23.

Sucks having newer cars that don't need any wrenching. Sounds like a fun and easy project.

In a weird stroke of luck, I did an eBay search for '77 Celica hood hinges and found that a guy started reproducing them with a much stronger design. I bought a used set a long time ago, but they aren't much better than the originals. Besides the rocker panel molding and window actuators, good hood hinges are probably one of the rarest finds. I actually have good rocker molding that I might not even use, so may sell it to fund body work.

You can rebuild that clutch. It’s not difficult just time consuming, then add a heavier fluid like a 10k that’s readily available on line. Takes more time to wait for fluid to drain than take it in and out. Even with new clutch you can add a heavier weight fluid. I bet a good system flush and new fan clutch will solve your problem.

Decided to just not hassle with it and get a new fan clutch since I’m not sure if this one is original to the truck or not.

I had a late night in the shop tonight wrestling with my leaf springs. Hours and many strings of profanity later, I have it all back together and closed the gap that Dave spotted on my driver side between the main leaf and the second one that wraps around. I don’t have a before photo, but on the driver side, the 2nd leaf (and I presume all leafs below it) was shifted forward a bit and we suspected that was the reason for my steering to be slightly off and my truck driving crooked down the highway. I managed to get it pretty dang close and I’ll be replacing these worn out leaf packs eventually anyway.

    35DADED1-94C1-4232-A9C9-F62D22F1AAE9.jpg 8E04EC80-B8B2-4866-9AC2-D6D08797840C.jpg

Other to-do items are an oil change at least and I need to consult my maintenance log to see if anything else is due. Oh, and I still need to unpack and remove my tent, but there’s a pile of plywood in its place in the garage so that’ll have to wait ‘til the wood gets put on the side of the house, whenever the contractor decides to show up and start the job.

    A thing or two...
I didn't feel anything down this way, and nobody at work mentioned an earthquake.

In other news, I should be a homeowner in about a month.

    Yeah.
    Congrats!

I was thinking our north central folks may have felt it more -- I think @beanulous128 lives in Yellville, right there near where it hit, and maybe Aaron was closer than I was.

As a baby, my daily nap was undisturbed when a car running from the police hit our house. Didn't wake up; probably was still dreaming. Scared my parents how quiet I was. Ha!

Needless to say, I don't think I'll ever get to feel an earthquake.
