Black Bear is one way in the switchback section. No need to worry about oncoming traffic. Once a year it gets run in reverse as a part of an event. I personally don't feel it's as sketchy as the internet makes it out to be. It does require full attention to what you are doing though. Only time a spotter might be needed is for the stair section where novices flop every year.

Last I heard was that Poughkeepsie was closed do to some jackasses a few years going around the gate and avalanche debris.

Good to know. Thank you. I will definitely be following someone who has experience with Black Bear.

I have a front bumper "trail cam" that looks down through the winch shackle at the trail that might help. Here's a picture of it at dusk.

    upload_2021-7-12_8-22-47.jpg

It gives visibility to see when I'm right at the bumper's edge.

They said it was 20,000 lbs of Ramen noodles. Total loss, $20.

    Yeah.
LOL. There's actually a Reddit thread on this that I found several years ago (yeah, I need better hobbies). The actual value of a truck full of Ramen noodles is actually a lot higher than you might think, estimated somewhere between $10K and $40K depending on how the truck is loaded.

@TerraNerva is your agency working this?

Yeppers, we were there. One of my inspectors was front and center on news. Truck came down the ramp a little hot and didn't make the turn. Pretty minor on the hazardous materials side, so we kicked it over to Game and Fish Commission and Dept of Health

Pictures like this make me thankful that my aunt's boyfriend is partially disabled* so he doesn't do stuff like this anymore. He's the kind of guy that would go full send on a stock Dodge Ram claiming that it's jesus's personal truck and it would end up in the news just like this. Glad the driver and all occupants were okay. Hopefully they learn their lesson

This trail likely isn't going to be open much longer. Too much ignorance finds its way on it and causes problems that take up the limited resources Telluride has to offer.

Repost from FB about Saturday's (7/17) Rigs and Coffee. I'll be packing for the CO trip and will not be able to attend. I hope everybody can make it and have a good time.

I wonder if some of the accidents happen with people who just arrive in the area and haven't fully acclimated to the high altitude? Also, for someone that has just started Acetazolamide (Dimox) they may be experiencing dizziness or blurred vision. Recommendations say to be careful operating machinery or vehicles when taking it.

I think if someone properly acclimates then spends a few days on the easier trails for working work up to BB they will be less likely to have a panic attack and do something they regret.

If I do go on a BB ride, I'll be following some of the guys in the video that really know how to drive it and can spot.

I think we have a group of roughly 30-35 100 series owners meeting there this year. Here's a video of them guiding the group through BB.
