    Yeah.
Carrier bearing on my 2012 lasted until around 90k. Symptoms sound similar.

I guess we will see soon. Should I part it out and get something different if its the whole driveshaft??

    So. Many. Stickers.
That actually sounds pretty normal for a batch of mid-range 2nd gens. If you're trying to get out of It's soon, I wouldn't put a Tom Wood shaft on there, just using OEM replacement. New carrier bearing and new u-joints should help. Just make sure you're getting 1310s and not 1360s (fitment)

At 35k mine was doing some clunking like that. The drive shaft is a known issue with the second gen trucks. I put in a Tom Woods around 50k and solved all the issues-vibrations at @40 mph and again near 64 mph as well as any odd clunks. 80k now and can't say enough good about that upgrade... You have a great looking truck, don't give up on it yet (you will only be disappointed with anything else's reliability.)

I might have found a good 3rd gen driveshaft that some guy took off at 50k miles for sale in the Memphis area. Guessing I could do that if needed. Will have another go at it tonight with a friend who has some better tools for the job than I do. The mystery continues.

Don't feel bad. I've been chasing what sounds like a tire rubbing when turning right for about a year. Just can't seem to find it . The actual sound doesn't bother me, but not knowing what's causing it does.

Well this bothers me to the point to where I've been worried to drive it too far away from home. Honestly feels like the driveshaft is just going to fall out at any point sometimes.

Just throwing out ideas... do you have a loose wheel? Have you climbed under and actually checked how much play is in the carrier bearing or the u-joints? Transmission can also mimic these types of vibrations etc. Sounds like a drive shaft problem from your descriptions, but... I have been fooled before.

@HDMOTT have you had the transmission serviced recently, by chance? I forget if you've mentioned it or not. If the auto trans is low on fluid, it can make the clutch plates inside do some weird stuff. Now, I'm no transmission guy - they're magic boxes for all I know. But they do need to have adequate fluid levels to build pressure and function properly. Just another idea.

I have checked the U-joints and carrier bearing for play already. The carrier bearing is the only thing I can find that has play in it at the moment. I am going to check the torque on wheels and u-bolts later tonight, when I put the other driveshaft in.

@CRASHMAN50 I have not had the transmission serviced ever, because my buddy who is the tech said that since it has fluid thats supposed to be good forever, and usually when you do a flush you begin to have problems with the transmission. I threw out the idea of the transmission going bad to my dad and he said he sure hopes it isn't cause that will be very expensive to fix.

Just so you know-Toyota amended their lifetime transmission policy. The interval for flush and fill is recommended at 60k. If you don't have issues, don't do it. I my case, everything after the drive shaft replacement has been transmission that came from a service... Can't win for loosing.

Oh okay I see what your saying. The new policy suggest service at 60k, but you had your transmission that was working fine serviced and it caused problems. So I was right about transmission having problems after servicing. Which mine seems fine I think? It doesn’t feel any different than it ever has.

I did get some pictures of skid plates and sliders the other day if anyone is interested. They are still installed but will be taken off probably this weekend. Letting the locals get first go at these before I post them anywhere else.

Well everyone it seems as if the mystery is solved. Got that other driveshaft in and it rides smooth now got it up to 80 with no vibrations or clanking. Figured out where the noise was coming from too, one of my U-Joints was completely toast, not sure how I didn't catch that in the many times I've been underneath checking lately.

hey @PinnaclePete I think I saw you on 40 Sunday. I think you were east bound somewhere. I caught a glimpse of a brown tacoma with the hard skinned box on the rear and thought I said seen photos on here of one.
