Wyoming photo dump, a little out of order. Went to Devil's Tower today and a little bit of Bighorn forest exploring. Camping at a brewery in Ten Sleep tonight.

So is the bilstein 5100s still an option for leveling a 3rd gen? I think on my 2nd gen access cab I went with 5100s and a stiffer spring to get a level stance. Just didn’t see much info on people running the 5100s on 3rd gens.

Also on another note still waiting on my 93 pickup 4wd 22re motor to be done. I know that the machine shop has bored it 20 over I believe. Pretty sure I’ve picked up everything needed to slap the motor in and get it running. Just waiting on the motor.

My experience is they don't. They just need the correct pressure, which is different for every size and based off the actual weight of the vehicle. In general, more sidewall, less psi for a given vehicle weight.

    Yeah.
Yeah, now that you mention it, higher psi might not be needed for all situations. I mainly wanted to point out that the chalk test is old school and there are more accurate ways to determine what psi you should be running.

There's a good Toyo guide for converting between tire types and sizes, but it's still a bit confusing to follow. In short, you start with the OEM spec to determine what load it was set up for, then inflate the replacement tires to match that load. With the help of another NWA member, I finally got the conversion calculation correct (I forgot to start by de-rating the OEM load specs since they put P-rated tires on a truck -- I was coming out with higher pressures around 44 psi). For my truck, the conversion came out to 37 psi for E-rated 265/75R16 KO2's. So, this would be the correct pressure for that particular tire and size to match the OEM spec -- BUT, you may want to adjust for your actual load. Mine have been set to 37 and seem to be wearing great. Maybe not the most comfortable ride, but a good compromise between comfort and fuel efficiency, and hopefully longer tire life. Even so, Aaron's cupping issue is likely not caused by the inflation pressure. Most sources indicate a suspension issue, or possibly balance/alignment.

    Here's the Toyo guide: https://www.toyotires.com/tires-101/tire-load-and-inflation-tables/

Most tire manufacturers have an inflation guide, but I like Toyos best and use it often. I start with the size and load rating for my actual weight (not GVWR) and adjust from there, verses the chalk test. Agree on the modern application of the chalk test. Usually end up a few pounds lighter, but it's a great place to start.

Yeah, realistically, I'd guess it's somewhere between the shocks going out or me running 730lb coils with only skid/sliders. :notsure:

Unfortunately I work every weekend. Nurse life. Great pay but every weekend takes its toll. I do go to burns quite often shooting my bow when it’s nicer out. Y’all keeps the pics coming. It’s cool seeing the these trucks taking the trips all over the US.
