I don't get Real serious on standings till after all-star break. That to me is when the best ball is played.

Hey, look at the bright side . . .

On the one hand, my Royals were the cellar dweller in a rather weak AL Central for the first month and a half and looked like they forgot how to even play baseball and, hell, your A's have 1/2 the freakin' team on the DL . . . yet they are both right at .500 now. We beat the Red Sox tonight, are 1/2 game out of 2nd, and 3 1/2 out of first and we still have 2 starting pitchers on the DL, Escobar and Gordon still not hitting .200, and the young stud [Jorge Soler] we traded our closer Wade Davis to the Cubs for is down at AAA Omaha still learning how to play baseball.

All things considered, I think both teams are pretty well positioned . . .

I'd call the NL Central or East weak before I even would think about calling AL Central Weak.

Almost a guarantee you will not see the Angels or Royals there.

My guess is Houston, Cleveland, or NYY vs. Dodgers, Rockies, or Nat's.

I know the other were projected high, but surprised this team is doing so well.

Perhaps weak is the wrong word. Parity in the AL Central may be more appropriate? The AL Central teams collectively have a winning record [or did yesterday, haven't looked at today's results] though barely against the other conferences but are just beating the crap out of each other. No one can really open up any distance other than early on when it was Minnesota way up and KC was 10 under .500 at the bottom right under Cleveland. I knew that wouldn't last.

With all the stars that have to align to make the big dance, I don't see that magic yet in KC but they are at least starting to get back to that scratch and claw, we are never out of it, get 'em on, get 'em over, get 'em in, frenzied hitting but now we also have the long ball from multiple hitters. Unlike 14 and 15 though where we had mediocre starters and a bullet proof pen, now we've got the solid starters [when we get Duffy and Karns back] but an uncertain pen. We have several guys that can easily turn into a bullet proof setup guy if Soria can't get it together? I am frankly most worried about Herrera as the closer. He still has that 96-99mph fastball but I think enough good hitters have seen it long enough now that they are starting to barrel it. Then he starts leaving his 91mph changeup up in the zone and that is another pitcher's fastball up in the zone. He never has been able to reliably control his slider. Losing Wade Davis just hurt period.

The Royals are peaking WAY too early. I do remember back in '13 [before the '14 and '15 miracles] when we finally got to .500 and lost like 9 games in a row after the All Star break.

But . . . 2nd game in a row. Behind 4-1 to Toronto, bottom of the ninth, Salvy hits a double, Moss [our DH who is hitting like .189 with talk of waivers] fouls off about 9 pitches and then earns a walk, Esky knocks in Salvy, 4-2, Moss goes first to third, Gordo lines up the middle to knock in Moss, 4-3, Whit Merrifield hits a double and unlike game 7 of the '14 series where they held up Gordo at third, he was coming home all the way from first come hell or high water . . .

    Walkoff 5-4 WIN!!!!

That was a nice win. An all blue world series would be sweet.
