Seriously where are these fans during the regular season in Tampa. They have more people today then an entire weekend series. They got a good team they should be having no issue putting butts in the seats.

Fans are not wanting to travel across a busy bridge after work then have to drive at least 30+ minutes after the game...the stadium is in a terrible location in st pete where its only good for people who live in st pete and not general tampa. Not to mention the Trop is a dump I wouldn't want to go there 80 times a year, also good team does not necessarily mean butts in seats they are good yes but no real "big names"

is that why the new place (more convenient) they wanted to build fell through?

Well the owner is cheap as hell, but that location in ybor had 0 shot of being successful because the location has 0 parking space. Great location in theory (near the lightning arena) but lacked real estate surrounding the ballpark. Great idea tho to have a smaller reasonable stadium i think it was like around 20k? They have the right idea just need to find a location in a packed tampa area.

This pretty much says it all...

There was another plan a while back when the previous owner had it to build a stadium on Dale Mabry near Raymond James... but the Yankees owner who does spring training in Tampa shut that down real quick.

And yes the stadium is a dump in a dump neighborhood miles away from anyone who would want to be a casual fan.

I was I'm St Pete in 2008 for the ALCS and traffic was a madhouse near the stadium.

Great point. Not only that, there were a TON of empty seats in the upper decks during even last night's game. Florida is a terrible place for any professional franchise - its full of retirees and transplants. The sub-optimal location of the Trop and the fact that its a dump, as mentioned above, doesn't help either. The Marlins wasted all that money on that beautiful stadium but I can't help but think that the Rays are more deserving.

Its a shame because the Rays organization is so well run given what they do with their abysmal payroll - they should move to North Carolina. And for now should also change their name to the Sting Rays.

They also won't beat the Yankees if they advance. They just don't play them that well. Not to mention it will be 50/50 fan split in Tampa for those games.

They need to do something, they’re being wasted down there. I remember playing in the trop in 2003 in a all star game. That place was a dump then and you couldn’t see a pop fly to save your life.

There are some articles indicating the Rays would be a tougher matchup for the Yankees in the ALCS but let's not get crazy, I'd much rather face them than the Astros.
