Yup that’s the difference between the late 90’s Yankees and today’s Yankees. They had the pitching to back up that offense. That 1998 team is one of the greatest teams of all time. I would love to see the Nats win in all honesty and it’s going to be tough for them, but that’s why you play the game.

In 1998 I was still a Yankers fan... that was a fun season.

Didnt root for the Ray's til I spent some time living in Tampa in the early 00's.

Tickets were cheap... but I had fun and stayed a Ray's fan.

Nice, I have been a yankee fan my whole life. In fact if you root for a different baseball team in my family you’re basically disowned lol. Every other sport you can pick your team and no one will give you shit. We have one Nationals and one Mets fan in my entire family lol. I don’t even think relocating could make me root for another baseball team. Good for you for sticking with the Rays through the early years. Also what do you think about the possible split time between TB and Montreal?

    Stupid.

    That is all.

The problem the Ray's have is their fanbase is in Tampa and they have been relegated to St Petersburg because the steinbrenner's wont let them encroach on their domain. The owner is looking for more ways to generate revenue... just not looking in the right direction. A few more years of relevance and the problem should fix itself.

Yea a friend of mine in TB says the stadium is no where close and the traffic is terrible. The team would have a cult like following if the stadium was close. The issue with Florida is a lot of transplants won’t root for the local team cause they have team already. I know for sure I won’t root for the Mariners after I move to the PNW. But I will go to some games to watch players I want to watch.

sorry, i’ve heard people say this before and it just sounds absolutely insane to me.

st. pete is a pretty big city, nearly as big as tampa, and it’s only just across the bridge...

that’s like saying the yanks *would* draw a big crowd, if only people didn’t have to drive into the bronx from jersey, brooklyn, and staten island...

don’t get me wrong, i like the rays and i don’t necessarily want to see them leave the area... but the geographic location of their stadium is not the problem.

Pinellas County is half the population of Hillsborough... and a quarter the size.

I lived in Brandon and was able to make a few games... but the headache of navigating the Howard Frankland and downtown Tampa traffic kept me from seeing more.

And everyone south of 10 av N in St Pete would probably prefer basketball.

    Edit... just looked it up

    2017 Estimated
    Pinellas: 870k
    Hillsborough: 1.45 mil
    So... close to half.
