Ok, so I know the original post is old, but I did just finish taking my headliner out. I have a 2018 double cab and I did it by taking the front seats and the center console out. Then I turned it sideways and pulled it out the passenger front door. Didn't crease it or break anything. I re installed it the same way. I took it out to put a 1,000 price fiber optics starlight engine in the headliner. Looks really cool and there was plenty of room to re install even with the fibers from taking out the front seats and console. Same steps as mentioned in previous posts, just confirming that you can get it out this way.

I just need to drop the rear portion of my headliner in my '17 full cab to install some LEDs in the headliner to light up the back seat area. Is there enough room under the headliner to fish wires to the factory dome light or do I need to drop the middle part of the headliner as well? TIA.

I have not done mine yet, but I would caution that you don’t flex it too much and cause a crease.

if you have the right tools, I can’t see why you can’t fish it. Make sure to remove the negative battery terminal first. Several scary stories here of people shorting something.

I’m also curious what you plan to do for lighting in the rear. I always thought it would be cool to add some flush map/spot Lights that are individually controlled.

Yes, be careful, body shop is replacing mine as we speak. They replaced my roof (tree fell on it) They had satellite remove and replace back windows and Windshield. Satellite screwed up both. They had to redo Windshield and replace back window. They messed up back edge of headliner. Now it's being replaced at a cost to them $1400.00

Has anyone replaced their headliner with a different color? I have the beige interior on my SR5, which I despise, and long for the black interior without having to trade-in and get a new truck. Do I have any options around this?

That's not a bad idea. I spoke with a Katzkin rep earlier today about leather seats and suggested having them also replace my headliner alongside doing work on the door panel. I wouldn't know what to do with the beige plastic panels and I'm a little nervous about messing around with the airbag panels.

It's been a couple of years, since I sound deadened, and insulated, my roof. But, I think you can get it done just working from the back. Good luck and post some photos.

You can have my black one, if body shop that's replacing it would give it to me. This is why they are replacing it. Like I mentioned $1400 is cost. Back edge fraid20221107_092141.jpg

Do you know the best place to look for a new one? The interior of my is all black/gray except the airbag panels and the headliner. If I could just replace the latter I'd rest easy.

They ordered it from Toyota, it to 2 months to get it. Just like everything else these days.

disconnect negative battery terminal and you’ll be fine.

that’s pretty much the first and always step when working on my truck. Even if something like a headliner that has nothing electrical, I do it anyway because there are wires there. Better to be safe.

That happened to mine. Warranty decline because they said I removed the headliner. Which there is no way I hell I did that.

What works for me on my 2nd gen should be the same to remove it fully is have your front seat out or reclined all the way. You can essentially fold it and remove it. Goes back in just fine. @na8rboy too bad I was not closer I would take you up on that. I have been considering swapping in 3rd gen interior into my second gen. or maybe just the headliner and pillars.

Even if you flex it the crease is not noticeable installed. Maybe the fabric on a 3rd gen but with my 2nd I did not notice it and bent it not completely to remove it.

I think I'm going to find a junkyard and pull the black panels and headliner for any Tacoma I find there. Anyone have any resources for removing the panels and headliner?

Does anyone have a photo of the interior roof of the Gen 3 Tacoma with the headliner removed? I'm trying to find a home for my sPod controller out of my Jeep (I'm not loving the electronic version) and if I could put it on the roof, aft of the console, I think that would be ideal.
