like I said - nothing you shouldn't already know from the several test drives. Lots of people liking the 3.5 and lots of people sticking with the 2nd and liking the 4.0.

I remember that, indeed it did. If it shrunk and went regular cab it would be the sexiest sending machine in teh world

    Not gonna happen.

There is always the new jeep pickup truck coming out possibly being named gladiator. Hopefully it doesn't have as many issues as the new jeep wrangler.

Best in class towing and payload.

You're obviously someone's fake-noob. Buying a 6MT 3rd gen and thinking the 2nd gen is superior says more about you then the truck. May as well start a thread asking when Toyota is going to make a compact pickup again.

It really is hard to find all the "issues", dislikes, etc from test drives. It wasn't until I started taking hour plus drives in my 2nd gen that I realized the seats completely destroyed my hip ( and I was a healthy 26 year old). Like I wanted to die and could hardly walk after getting outta the truck. I don't think many dealerships want a "test drive" to be 80 miles long when the odometer currently says 8 (and I think that's perfectly reasonable). I know some dealerships do allow overnights and such, but that is not the norm from my experience. I've only personally seen it offered ONCE, when my dad was looking at a new '97 F150, and the dealership was in my hometown of 2000 people.

How about towing? I haven't heard any stories of dealers allowing someone to hook up a trailer to a brand new Tacoma on a test drive. I know the Tacoma isn't a cummins, but it might fit the bill perfectly fine for your trailer, or it might suck.

So yeah, this is my opinion on the argument that you should have noticed XYZ during the test drive.

That's understandable, complaints on towing and long-term seating I can completely see. However, a complaint about the powerplant/transmission should ABSOLUTELY be caught during testdrives. Every dealership I test drove at let me drive in city conditions, freeway onramps, and freeway speeds. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota also let me aggressively accelerate and decelerate and drive the truck over some rough pothole filled roads.

It just gets tiresome watching the same dead horse get beat over and over by people who seemingly didn't even testdrive the vehicle before purchasing it, 99% of the time its the shifting and powerplant.

Maybe down low... but I'd like to see any 2nd gen that can take my 18 MT in a race from a rolling start. 35 dropped to 2nd and bye bye 2nd gen.

Agreed, that would look cool. All trucks have gained weight over the years to the point where Full Size Trucks are Semi sized and Small trucks are now Full Sized. There are no small trucks anymore.

Love my 1st Gen. Park it in my garage, park it anywhere downtown and looks better than any truck on the road.

The Jeep truck is the ultimate gay truck. Coming from a young guy, the only guys I see driving Jeeps are weird or creep type 50 year old dudes. And I seriously mean that. Jeep truck is for when you're just not weird enough to drive a wrangler, you have to get something gayer.
