The last 1911 I built. Caspian oversize frame, hand fit and lapped slide, Ed Brown small parts, Springfield Operator slide and barrel. She is tight and shoots great.

1911’s are great guns to own, collect, and shoot. I understand the nostalgia of 45’s, but I’m a fan of both 9mm and 10mm 1911’s.

That said, I don’t carry them because I don’t train with them. I regularly train on guns that don’t have any safety (DAO, striker fired) so the 1911’s get shot for fun and the others stay on my hip.

I've had quite an array of Colt 1911's over the years but this, by far, is my favorite. Colt Mark IV Series 70 Custom Shop Lew Horton 1 of 50 .45. Shoots lights out with any style and weight bullet.

I have a love affair with the 1911...

I buy them, shoot them, decide that other things are more practical, sell them then lust after them when they are gone.

They are a ton of fun to shoot and are still quite relevant even in today’s world, but I’ve relegated my current 1911 (Dan Wesson Specialist 9mm) to range fun / variety as it’s so much fun to clean plate racks with a smooth SAO, but prefer > 15 rd capacity for everything else.

nothing wrong with a 1911.........................i woulds stress proper training & plenty o range time

i would not suggest 1911 1st gun EDC

Kimber......Para Ordnance.........Glock in 45cal in this order for choice

i dont like 1911 for the ‘ grip ‘ safety / barrel bushing & the major decision .......1 in chamber or Not !

1911 is probably my favorite pistol to shoot, but I'd never want to carry one.

I always go cocked and locked if I carry one of my 1911’s. That is how I carried it in the Marine Corps and what I am comfortable with. It is a rare occasion that I carry one though. Usually have my P365, M&P shield 40, or a 340PD.

Ur choice.............didnt say it was a bad choice or wrong

i am sayin not the best choice for a rookie /1st weapon

    there’s a lot o macho/bravada carrying & the legend o the weapon is a factor

there are as many in the camp of an empty chamber as there are cocked & locked

    purgatory for the inexperienced.............

I often here folks say the 1911 is obsolete. Not suited for the unskilled. Dangerous carried in the manner it was designed to be carried and so on.

Obsolete, it still kills every bit as good as it did the day the military adopted it.

Not for the unskilled, it was designed to be used by men who had the absolute minimum training.

Not safe carried in condition one. There are two active safeties that must be disengaged to fire it. The current fanboy gun, the Glock has one that is disengaged merely by touching the trigger.

Mostly the reason folks badmouth the 1911 is to justify another choice.

ALL the very reasons why ALL other manufacturers of pistols

should have NEVER innovated many diverse models that out sell the 1911

they should have given up in the face of superiority.....................absurd

COLT couldnt give me a gun/pistol in any make/model

    id carry a KIMBER

    a Glock in 45 cal

not a colt 45 in ANY iteration

    its a cinder block

I own a Glock 30. It isn’t half the gun my Randall or Colts are.

It just comes down to personal experience I guess.

I wonder how many folks here have used a handgun in a combat situation. We’ll never know.

There is a reason the 1911 has been around so long, it's a proven weapon that flat out does the job. It is hands down, my favorite pistol.
But it is not for everyone.
