I can respect the first gun argument. But there was many things i had to consider when purchasing.
    1. My Timing was limited as i was trying to make sure my purchase was grand fathered. Maryland had passed a law that would require annual license (fees), multi day Training to buy a hand gun.
    2. Since my timing was limited and i am not planing on purchasing another handgun after the new law, I was ok with paying extra for a nice gun.
    3. As for conceal carry, I live in MD (CA of the east coast). You have to be Active military, Police, or the president to get a conceal permit. So i was not buying the hand gun to carry.
    4. As for the complexity of a 1911 not being newbe friendly, I am an engineer and love to research, disassemble, and maintain the gun. I also have a big appreciation for the precision these guns demand and the performance delivered. And i shot a glock and it was all over the place. To be fare the glock was the smallest barrel they sell.
    5. I was drawn to the stainless offering.
    6. Women love a full size 1911 :D

Fair enough. And WOW! I thought Illinois' gun laws sucked! I own several models of Glocks and several 1911s, though no Kimber yet. My Glocks all shoot great. The MOST important thing is to get a gun YOU like. Good luck with your purchase...

I own a few guns. I'm partial to 1911s and revolvers. The Dan Wesson ECO or the Colt Dick Special usually rides in the center console of the Tacoma

I would have a hard time not keeping that 1911 as it was originally built.

    Poor condition or something?

Had 5 1911s but am down to 2 now. All were 5" barrel models except 1 Colt Commander 4.25".

Right now I have a Dan Wesson Valor SS and a Kimber Custom Crimson Carry II. All of my 1911s have been .45 ACP. If I bought another caliber it would be .38 Super or 10 MM.

For a wealth of knowledge on the 1911 platform and much information about different brands go to 1911forum.com sign up and read all you can including doing some searches for questions you may have. After reading and searching just ask the members who can be very helpful.

I sometimes carry a 1911 either in a Don Hume outside the waistband (OWB) holster or inside the waistband (IWB) Crossbreed holster.

Most if the time I carry a S&W M&P Shield 9 MM in either a Galco OWB or an Alien Gear IWB holster.

    Good luck with your decision.

I forgot, no series 70 type 1911s in Kalifornia. My DW Valor would not qualify but I think my Kimber Crimson Carry II probably does. My AR and Hi Capacity M&P C.O.R.E. would not fly unless I had a bullet button and 10 rd magazines.

I think 70s are okay here.

I think the issue was Dan Wesson not wanting to pony up the dough for drop testing.

It's ridiculously expensive and I think you have to submit like 15 firearms for testing and they're never returned to the manufacturer after.

Family friend of ours (since deceased) used to do drop testing for the DOJ back when it was a new thing.

Anyway, just a guess. My Les Baer TRS was not an 80 series pistol and was/is CA legal.

My oldest son just got a Les Baer Premier II without the forward cocking serrations and loves it. Very accurate even though his does not have the 1 1/2" accuracy upgrade.

He lived in El Segundo for about 10 years then Salt Lake City (2nd time) for 3 years and left today for Nigeria working 28 day rotations.

He works for Chevron as a Refinery General Manager and will be working in a compound with security. Flies into the guarded compound air strip and flies out 28 days later.

    Appreciate the safe comment.

Since this is about 1911s my youngest son has a Springfield TRP MC Operator (I think the nomenclature is correct) that is really sweet also. Very nice trigger and TLR laser/light combo.

    Beautiful weapons!

I just added a Ruger SR1911 .45 to my trusty M&P 9mm earlier this month.

After jumping thru all of the NJ hoops, I purchased it between travels and had to wait 10 days to shoot it. Took it out and it jams right off the bat. Range master comes over and tries it, does the same thing. "Did you clean and oil it?"

Uh oh. "Uh, no, my M&P was ready out of the box".

Another one looks it over, say take it home, clean and oil, and polish the loading ramp, which actually had burrs you could feel. Did that, came back, and again, jams repeatedly. Store owner comes over and asks what's up, guys tell him, he tries it, same thing. So it went back to Ruger, supposed to only be a 3-week turnaround, so here's hoping when it comes back. Gotta say though, love the feel of it and am ahlready thinking about another one, possibly a 4.25 inch model for CCW (if I can manage to get myself outta Jersey and back to the land of the free, like PA). M&P Shield is the next contender if 1911 is too big.
