I don’t Offroad. I bought my Tacoma to use for yard supplies, Home Depot trips and mainly because I always liked Tacomas.
My truck is stock at the moment and I have been averaging 23-25mpg per tank (90% freeway)
I guess I just drive like a granny. I like that the tranny shifts the way it does and I love cruising on 6th.

In about 6 weeks I’ll remove the airdam and install my sso slimline bumper, and fox 2.0 shocks. My driving habits won’t change so I’ll comeback and let you guys know how much of a difference the body parts make.

I'm with you OP... I like the air dam. I like the look it gives the truck compared to it being off :anonymous: - I jumped on the big sale and got me a TRD skid plate and installed it. I immediately hated the loud ass red letters and grey color of it. I tried to live with it but when I noticed a drop in my MPG I had to take action. I hit the skid with a can of some flat black high heat exhaust paint and re-installed my air dam over the protruding skid. Me likey how it turned out  it keeps with the whole look of my truck and that's what matters.

Don't trip, the sharpie marks were for reference - they are wiped clean now.

I painted the skid with this:

Explain the data you based your opinion on?

If no one cared about fuel economy every truck would have a V8 even mid sized. I personally bought a Tacoma because I no longer needed a 5.9l Cummins and my fuel economy is amazing comparatively. My neighbor who bought a F150 last year made his engine choice based on fuel economy. He is a mechanical engineer AND a farmer and he uses his truck as a truck. My truck tows, hauls and carries. You know the stuff a truck is good for and my convertible simply can’t.

Not everyone is trying to make a lifted, levelled Bro machine. Some of us need a commuter that can work on weekends. So fuel economy and still being a truck matter.

Just sayin', but there are a plethora of articles on the internet disproving air damns add MPG, tested on different pickups

To be fair, consumer demand is not the driving factor behind manufacturer's going for every last drop of MPG. It's because they are forced to by regulating bodies.

Fact is that this who prefer it off will say it makes no difference in mpg or drivability, and those who put one on will say it does. It is basic psychology, law of preferences. Any body have one for sale, I would like to out one on to see for myself.

If you've removed yours, you know the air dam weighs about the same as a Big Mac and could be easily folded into thirds by a chunky three year old. No offense, but there's NO WAY in hell it's stabilizing a 4,000LB truck at speed.

They are pretty common in the for sale section. Prohibitively large and expensive to ship tho, so best to find one local.

What’s that got to do with the price of eggs?

The poster I replied to claimed “most people who get a truck don’t care about MPG’s because it’s not meant to get good fuel economy.” Regardless of whether there are federal fuel economy standards or not consumers do choose between better and worse fuel economy. Enough so that you have to consider some of the current full sized trucks vs mid sized based on fuel economy. The technology in some full sized truck engines gets incredible fuel economy. If fuel economy was my only consideration I might have went full sized because my Tacoma is horrible fuel economy wise when towing.

I buy led lights for my house due to economy long term and rising hydro prices. I keep my tires at correct pressures for economy. I don’t buy oversized tires due to their effect on economy. Regulations are driving technology resulting in economy but my wallet still does the decision making not the government.

Doesn't have to weight a lot to be functional. The lower the front end (the whole reason why it's there) the lower the air resistance going forward - especially the faster you go. And that's a fact.

My response was to a post stating that the removal of the mustache was lowering the truck's ability to stabilize during 'wind gusts'. (makes me giggle just repeating it) That 2 pound piece of pliable plastic shit isn't 'stabilizing' a damn thing, and that's a fact. lol

I'll see your thumbs up and raise you one.:thumbsup:

My data is from Wikipedia and my degree from the university of YouTube. I, my opinion, again myself, would LIKE to think that if someone is plunging into a truck and cares about MPG’s, don’t or get a 4 cyl. If you are that worried about MPG’s then look at something else. It’s pretty simple. If I can’t afford to put gas in a truck despite needing it for my weekend gardening, I’ll just get a small car. A truck won’t get better MPG then a small car will, it’s common sense. Again, my opinion.

Less air resistance = more stability. That's a fact as well.:thumbsup::thumbsup:
