Gonna jump on this. I am a stay home dad and have been doing so for 11 years. I am a machinest by trade, but could not bring myself to hand my paycheck over to another person just for watching my little girl.

At that time it was a no-no, and I caught alot or BS about it, even from family. I did after my second daughter was born went back to school and got a degree, but thats another story.

To put it all in a nut shell, the Lord planned it all out for where I am at now. 11 years ago I decided that my family came first, since that time I have been able to do special things with my girls that alot of Dads miss. Now at this time it is just me, Michele passed away and now I am raising two girls by myself, but it is all good. We have a relationship that is alot better than others. In the past years when the gilrs needed something they came to me, when they needed brute help they came to me, when they needed money, even though mommy made it they came to me, a ride...call Dad. Everything had a reason and in my life it was planned out so long ago to get to this point.

I even tried to start my own business, and worked during a summer, NO GO. I was meant to stay here. It's a tough job don't get me wrong, and if any of you guys decide to do it, talk long and hard with your wife. For me it has been fullfiling, years that I will never forget.

BUT!!! I am no house husband, besides what I do I still have ALL the other duties and will have them until.............whenever.

Everyone has a plan lined out by the Lord, make sure you open your eyes wide, and make sure the door is fully open before you go through it.

I just recently finnished up a year at home with my 3 and 5 year old children. It is a stressful, tiring, but rewarding experience. I must say, though, it is nice to be back at work. My son will be going to Kindergarten in less than 2 weeks and my daughter will be starting pre-school. The ridiculously high cost of childcare makes 2 working parents a difficult proposition.

    LongBow -

I don't know you personally, but I can say, "I would trust you with my life." If I lost my sight and you were to lead, I would follow. I sense you are a man of integrity and inspires many.

    Thank you.

Although I know you are blessed in many ways and being tested in others, my prayers are with you and your loved ones.

This is my first day having to stay home because I got laid off this week. I hate the feeling. My Wife got up and left and I'm just sitting here hunting for jobs.

I know the feeling, but the days do get better. I also know the feeling of getting laid off, blows big time wondering about everything. Best advise I can give you is stay busy, try not to let you mind wonder. Sitting around and simmering over things for me is not good.
I will pray your job starts back up.

Great to see your sig back here again Longbow! And I don't mean to sound like I'm complaining, I wouldn't trade this time with my kids for anything, especially my daughter. I've always heard that girls who have a good relationship with their dad are far less likely to screw up with the wrong guys later on. Either way, I'll make sure she gets one that will take care of her!

Ugghh!:( I hope that's not true about the daughters. My 3 y/o daughter and I really butt heads alot of the time. My wife and my 5 y/o son tend to clash with each other.

I think Im just going to take a year off and fish and work on the houses. I would have loved to be able to stay home with the kids over the years. Take advantage of the time you have.

I love my job and prefer to be the bread winner, but my wife and I have no kids and she is a stay at home wife right now. Whenever she complains about housework, I tell her to go out and find a job that pays as much as mine does, and I will GLADLY switch. They always make housework sound so hard, but I do just as good a job at cleaning in 1/10th the time. Then I have the rest of the day to screw around and do whatever I want.

    you are correct sir!

Wifey and I talked long about it and both agreed that we didnt want our child in daycare until she could actually tell us if something was wrong. Wifey was making good $ at the time, so I was the chosen one. It's been a fun 3 1/2 years I will never forget. She will ALWAYS be daddys lil girl. We have been very blessed to have the financial means to allow me to stay home with our daughter through these years. She has developed well, very smart..... and a smart ass just like her daddy..LOL

Now that shes older and getting ready to starting pre-school soon, I will have more time to focus on my business.

    I AM READY!
