Oh, it's not slow by a longshot, and according to her, the difference is negligible. She's just picky, and I would have expected a little improvement. Wondering if the video card is really the bottleneck in what she is seeing, and the new platform is just slightly less efficient at feeding it.

2133 MHz memory? Should be at least 3200 MHz for gaming. Small cost difference for 10-20% FPS gains.

Also NZXT AIOs are overpriced. They have a lot of bling and they charge for it.

Not criticism but you did claim “best bang for dollar” ;)

Imo AIO's are overrated. Unless you are running some very extreme temps, a great air cooler is gonna give you comparable performance, way less risk, and wayyy less cost. My nocturna is actually outperforming my old AIO, I'm never looking back

I bought a Noctua NH D-15 when I built my 4790k machine. It was supposed to be as good or better than the smaller AIO coolers.

I used a Noctua on my daughter's build -- I use those small Cooler Master cubes with ITX motherboards, and they had the best option for clearance. Very impressed with the quality and customer engagement. No clue how it actually performs, but she hasn't overheated it, lol.

My 2600x OC's itself to 4.2ghz+ during heavy loads and my Noctua NHU14 cooled it like a champ. When I first got it, I needed a mounting bracket for the x470 mobo. Called them up and they sent the bracket free and arrived in a few days. Great customer service and their cooler is much better quality than my old EVO

When you have a Theadripper you use an AIO. That being said I went with a model that sold their 360mm radiator model for the same price as most companies 240mm rads and out performed them in 3rd party testing.

Ryzen loves AIO cooling because it has a good thermal solution to transfer heat from the chip to the faceplate. Intels thermal solution sucks which limits the usefulness of any cooling solution.

I'm under 60 with Threadripper at 100% usage. That's the difference between AMD and Intel for thermal solution.

I was around 60 out of the box. which I still think is too high for stock clocks. if intel would just fix their shit I could probably push this cpu further. temps and shitty paste is pretty much the only thing holding it back.

    Exactly.

The best part? Intel is fixing the problem... but only on the 9900K lol.

I hate Intels strategy right now. So they are bringing the 9900K out and calling it an i9. What people don't realise is that the 9700K now will come without hyperthreading. That's right. Intel created a new price level and then eliminated features on the existing price level. What a crock of shit. Especially in a world where every AMD processors come with more features unlocked than Intel even at the existing price levels.

I love noctua, and have gone to using them exclusively for current and future builds. A little expensive, and the browns arent the prettiest, but amazing quality.
