I just take a few now and then. I took this one a few weeks ago. My wife thought it was pretty good so she submitted it to the local newspaper. They printed it last Sunday. Now I can say I'm a published photagrapher.:D

I shoot on a Cannon 40D with a Sigma 18-200 (because of the rough environment I'm in I don't like switching lenses often). Mainly I shoot for fun, but some of my shots end up on websites and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two end up in Vertical.

    thanks,
Yup, they are all fly in. All in central Yukon, about 30-100 miles from the nearest comunity. All or part of the trip in is helicopter, sometimes we can move in by fixed wing part of the way. I pretty much live out there 3 months of the year.

I'm just getting started. My roommate is a budding pro who does studio work and weddings, but I want to take another direction - I want to fill the family album, get some pictures on the walls, and take pictures of life that I find interesting. Far less focus on post-processing as well - monkeying with the pictures just makes me stop caring about them. My goal is to try to not ever use a flash and instead focus on using natural light.

I'm a Canon guy, and will be buying an XSI body - at this point, that's already going to exceed my skill. The lens is still TBD, but I'm looking at either a Canon 28-135, Canon 18-200, or the Tamron 28-300. I had to carry an 18-55 and a 75-300 when I went to Yellowstone and hated having to swap back and forth, so I really want a large range all-on-one for starting out.

All I have up so far is some pics from Ankeny Hill outside of Salem, Oregon (basically my first 'album'). I got to borrow my friend's 40D with a 24-105 L-series ;) EDIT: Google doesn't like the hotlinks, go here. All you need is an email registered to google if you don't want to sign up for gmail.

    Yay Canon.
I really like having my 18-200. I think I like having the wide angle more than I would like going for a 300. 200 is usually more than I need. An 18 is handy since with the sensor size on most DSLRs, a 30 (or there about) is not wide enough.

If Canon had their 18-200 when I got mine I would have bought that over the Sigma I have.

You will love the XSi. I am addicted to mine - tons of features without the extra cost.

I have heard that the lens quality is different, but is it really that noticeable?

I am not a photographer, but I like to mess around. I shoot with a 30D and a 70-300MM IS Canon lens. A buddy of mine shoots with a tamaron, he is putting his back on ebay . . .

I haven't shot with the Canon 18-200, but I have noticed with other lenses, that many of the Canon lenses are much better. Not always in picture quality, but sometimes with the AF. It does depend on the lens and application.

I find my Sigma is fuzzy around the edges at the extreme zooms and the autofocous is noisy and has trouble locking on at times. Most of the time I would never know it's fuzzy untill I zoom right in on the picture. But, some of that is just what you get for the super zoom range and the relatively low price.

I'm still debating on my next lens. Either Canon 70-300 DO, or some wide angle prime, with low apature for shooting northern lights.
