    Wait- you...use...your...Taco...for...farm...work? Isn’t that dirty?

No, really- maybe you can mod some stake mounts to bolt into the side rails? True Value carries black coated ones, and so may Tractor Supply.

Edit: sorry, jumped in before reading all- Wnc4wd’s stake sides look like a nice solution!

I use tiedowns, using a garden fence to extend the sides of a truck bed seems silly. Now a flatbed, that's is a different story.

It's not pretty but I had built some last minute walls out of 8x4 sheets of ply. Bolted them to the side rails with the right carriage bolts and nuts.

They went all the way to the bed floor. And were measured just tall enough that they collapsed flat between the Wheel wells when not using them. So they also doubled as a bed mat.

I drilled a few holes along the perimeter to pretension the walls inwards with a few tie downs along the top front and back.

Worked great holding a bunch of retail merchandise on a 7 hour over the mountains road trip between Phoenix and la.

All in was about $100 in materials. I always thought the collapsing bit made it a clever design and maybe one day of optimize the design and work to get them made out of a prettier looking material with some better configuration options. Say a fiber impregnated plastic.

And then I realized only a few of us would use them. IMG_8752.jpgIMG_8762.jpg

I made these out of necessity in like.... 10 mins with random wood scraps I had around the yard... and then keep them on my truck for like.... 6+ months because of how useful they were and how much more they allowed me to carry. Wish someone sold something like this cause im going to feel bad putting these ugly things on my brand new tacoma.... but.... if I gotta then thats just how it is

They are made by 1x6 wood, and are secured by 2 bolts per side, into T fittings, into the side rails (same place as the cleats). The wood extends all the way down to the floor of the bed so that when stuff is in the bed, it acts as a counter pressure on the bottom of the vertical boards so that nothing can push them overand damage, bend the bed rails

I know this is an old thread - but it came up when I searched online for ideas. I think it's a good one - and of painted black like my truck they wouldn't look bad. I like the idea of things in the bed - in my case firewood at times, would act as counter pressure to secure them.

Also I'd consider a bed extender. I found out some can be completely removed when not in use by removing 2 pins, otherwise I don't think I'd consider that option.
