Wife wanted the bathroom redone, i didnt...so the bathroom is now gutted down to subfloor and studs.
Old tub/shower was a one peice fiberglass unit, went to put in a standard bathtub and hit a snag.
The drain for the old bathtub is 2 inches above the level of the floor, too high for the new tub.
The existing drain pipe for the tub is fucky, it goes over top of a floor joist, so the tub drain kits from home depot/ lowes wont even work
Anyone have suggestions before a professional gets called?

I too had to make an account to try and help save you from stupid suggestions. They make "above the floor" style tubs that the skirt of the tub sits on the floor but the floor of the tub is raised to accommodate the drain being on top of the subfloor . That is what your old tub was and is roughed in for. I would recommend an American Standard Americast tub. Look at them online .

Anyways, I'd just chop and add a couple of elbows. A pic is worth 1000 words:

PVC is super-easy to work with, talk to the plumbing guy at home depot or lowes. Buy primer, glue, and a small bit of pipe to make this happen. The angle you're dealing with is a bit fucked, I'd use one of these to cut it: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-1...ulti-Tool-Attachment-Tool-Only-P340/202868525 - Harbor Freight has an equivalent if you're only needing it for this job.

Oh, uh if two elbows makes it too deep, use a closet elbow. That'll give you less of a drop.

I didn't see your location, I could do this in like 20 minutes if you were nearby. Definitely not plumber-worthy. Either way, have your tub first with the plumb kit for it -- some tubs require you get the kit for the tub (put in a huge soak tub once like that) to make sure it'll fit.

I got ahold of a professional in my area, sent a picture and description ,and before i finished talking he blurted out "you need an above the floor rough in tub, i can get you an American standard by Friday...."
So thats the route im going, apparently home depot and lowes dont even stock these tubs, hes getting it from a plumbing supplier.
He also mentioned when he comes with the tub on friday if the current pvc drain pipes can be cut and reworked to fit the standard tub he will do whichever is cheaper.
The above the floor rough in tub costs $200 more than the standard tub.
Im not comfortable notching the floor joist, it is a long span between the support beams, the basement underneath is not finished so everything is in view.

This also limits the ability to drill a hold bc of the amount of the joist showing. Back farther, idk who, some one got it right. If this bathroom sits on the last 1/3 then notch the damn joist. For extra support because it's a notch, run a flat strip of metal over the pipe and nailed on each side with a few nails. You'll have to move the tee down and rerun the vent. I'd personally remove the drain, dry fit the tub, mark the drain on the duct work. Then take out the tub and build the drain. Afterwards install the tub and hope to God you can get the vent in.

Ya, was looking. Are you wanting to put a tub back in or shower? There is no way to set the tub without he notching the top of the floor joist or do a shower and put the drain in the middle and drill the floor joist. Need a bigger pic and where does the drain in the floor go

This is your answer my dude. Very common.

You only need a few inches. Tiny notch.

Don't go and add a bunch of subfloor unless you are low already.
