need more info. we had a leak from upstairs in a rental house, when we flushed the toilet it would leak. I went to check the wax seal on the toilet and the two bolts that hold the toilet were just put in the wax...they werent even attached...so I put a new wax seal and bolts and it was fixed. But there could be a bunch of other things leaking causing the leak.

Capture.jpg I wonder if I should rip into the problem (I can do plumbing) or call the insurance since will involve the dry wall repair/replacement also.
The spare bathroom upstairs (formally of my daughter's) has not been used in a while but wife runs the water every few days to keep the water moving. She told me that the cloth dryer is wet and now I see water dripping from the ceiling fan but it seams it only drips when the water upstairs is running. Upstairs is all dry around the toilet and under the sink.
Should I rip the ceiling and look/fix the problem or call insurance and have somebody come and fix it?
Now I have to replace the garbage disposal...it never ends.

how old is the house? It depends how well you think you are with fixing the problem. You could end up doing more damage if you dont know what you are doing. If its only when its running I would say its in the drain lines...either burst or corroded depending on the age of the house.

Ran into similar on my old house.

First time: replaced wax ring on toilet. Fixed it.

Second time, replaced plumbers putty in shower drain. Fixed it.

My suggestion: identify what is running when it’s dripping. Toilet? Shower? Sink? Go from there.

Have cut a piece of drywall and it looks like is coming from the toilet drain (shit water:annoyed:) and felt the pipes and drains but the elbow looks wet. Will cut more drywall tomorrow and take pictures.

Bet it’s just the wax ring. Easy to fix. I fact I’d just swap it and see if it solves it

I don't get it. The laundry room is under the upstairs bathroom and nobody used any of the tub/shower, sink or toiled many hours ago and is still dripping one drip every 3-4 seconds. From I could touch and feel tonight, none of the copper pipes are wet and the tub drain is dry, sink drain is dry and from I could see the toilet drain is dry but below where all join in the elbow is wet and drips. Where is the water coming from? Tub is not holding the water, sink is not holding the water and the water in the toilet is leveled to the bend and after that should not be any water. Why dripping still?
Tomorrow with wife will move all from the laundry room, bring a ladder, cut the ceiling and look for water source.

Could have pooled in a low spot, most ceilings aren’t actually “flat”

Ceiling under the pipe is cut off. Now just drips straight down.
