No locker < Factory Locker < ARB air locker.

    Sport = No locker.

I've watched open diff sports struggle time and time again where the Off Road walks right up.

However....If you take your sport and add lockers then you have a much more capable truck.

When you get the urge for something new, there's usually nothing that will hold you back.
Test drive what trim level you are interested in to see if you still 'really gotta have it!"
Do Not talk buy with a salesman at this time.
    Go back home.
Put your present truck's info into kbb.com
If that number satisfies you as to a trade-in value, figure a rough monthly payment for a new truck.
If you're still interested, go back to dealer and negotiate.

There will always be something newer/nicer/shiner than whatever you currently have at any point in time, vehicles only stay new for so long and you can go broke chasing the newest flavor of the week. If your 2nd Gen meets your needs and is reliable why take on the financial burden of a new truck loan.

Then again I don't know your financial situation, maybe you have money to burn.

My 2013 sr5 was payed off and I only did basic mods. I had enough money saved when I bought my 3rd gen that I didn’t have to make payments and just paid the difference. The resale on my 2nd gen was insane and that’s the only reason I upgraded.

That said, after owning both I have no desire to ever go back to a 2nd gen. I don’t have any of the issues ppl bitch about on here with my 3rd gen and it actually tows my boat nicer then my 2nd gen did.

Well, I'll admit I still own a 2nd gen. Mine meets my needs, so I have no interest in getting rid of it. So I'll not critique anything about a 3rd gens functionality. Just to avoid the 'but you don't own one' crowd. ;)

You asked, so here are *my* thoughts. Ultimately you have to decide for yourself.

    Keep it.

    Keep it.

Assuming you mean as in style, not operation? Does it really matter that much in the grand scheme of life? Lot's 'o bucks to 'feel' modern.

trading is a losing position, regardless what the salesperson 'allows' you. At least do the value research and sell it yourself.

Pro is a Toyota profit making bling package. In 10 years it will show as about a 5-10% of what you pay for it adder in the used market.

Wet primer. And spending a bunch of cash for a color........... nah.

You could do a good bit of updating to your '15 for the price of a few months worth of payments on a new one. Heated leather seats, a wheel change, upgraded head unit, new grill, heated mirrors etc. And at the end of the day still avoid a front end that looks like

With a recession looming, keep it. No car payment will help you immensely.

The suspension is off road oriented, softer suspension. Bilstein shocks, Comes with skid plates, AT tires, locking differential! Crawl confrol is nice but not necessary so I’m leaving it out. Yeah the sport can offroad but an OR does it better straight from factory.
How am I insecure? Im just voicing my opinion that the OR is superior to the Sport when it comes to off roading. If you can’t see that and instead want to say something irrelevant that’s fine. I could’ve got a Sport. It’s cheaper, but I wanted the locking diff and didn’t want to mod right away so the OR was my choice as I deemed it better for off roading. That was a foolish thing to say. But I understand why since you’re being insecure and feel “attacked” I since I’m voicing an opinion on a trim that you own.

Have you tried OVTune? It’ll make your truck shift like it was supposed to from the factory :)

If it’s paid off and you’re still at the point if “debating” to upgrade or not, then wait. Loved my 08’ OR, only upgraded when I had to. Save some of what you would put to into car payments, pull the trigger when it is no longer a debate in your mind. Seems kinda like you want us to talk you into buying it.

I've had an 2004, 2006, 2008, and now a 2016. Miss the 2004 the most, love my 2016. But..no car payments equal a lot more money for my other hobbies...golf and guns.

Correct, I don't take it off road, and I do agree with this. BUT only if someone is really hard-core off roading. Regular 4WD will get someone pretty far off road. I do wonder what percentage of new truck owners (as opposed to beater truck off roaders) really use/need crawl control, locking diff, etc.

I had a 2005 Xrunner, 2011 TRD sport pre runner AT, 2012 TRD sport 4x4 AT, and now a 2017 TRD Sport 4x4 AT. My manual Xrunner was fast but thirsty. However moving from my 2012 to my 2017, was a huge improvement. 3rd gen has a more agressive exterior looking and interior is way nicer and it's quiter on the road. I know o lot of people complain about the six speed transmission & 3.5 engine combo. Personally l don't have any complaints. To me both gens ride very similar. The only difference that I noticed, is that 2nd gen has a little more low end torque but 3rd gen V-tech kicks in right at 3000 rpms. I love my turd gen and there is no way that I will go back to a 2nd gen taco.

I recently traded in my '05 Sport with 122k that I bought new when the 2nd gen first came out for a '17 Sport with 5k. The '05 was having a couple of issues that made me start thinking about a new one. Once I test drove a 3rd gen, the seed was planted. I liked the ride, looks and interior. Found a nice Certified Used one that had all that I wanted in it for a lot less than a new one. (Although I did get hosed by the dealer with all of their hidden "fees")

FWIW, I am just into my 7th decade and had one of those 'WTf why not' moments. Yeah, there are payments but I am really enjoying this new ride!

Traded my 2010 DCSB MGM in on my 2017 DCSB BBP. Both trucks have their strong points. 2010 had more torque heading over the mountain to our hunting cabin. 2017 added features like rear camera in head unit, heated mirrors, better gas mileage for me. Really like my 17 on entrance ramps to the interstate tramping on the gas, resembles an old YZ on the power band! Ok showing my age. Transmission takes getting used to, but doable. I like both trucks equal I guess.

I have my Gen 2 '07 TRD PreRunner still, it's going to be a hard truck to part with.

I always seem to bond with my trucks.
