From what I have seen about the 2020s, the only changes are slightly altered headlights, with LEDs, power drivers seat, and passenger door unlocks with touch like driver door. To me, that is a security issue, but I digress on that one. And the day that I cannot adjust my own driver seat without needing power assist, I shouldn't be driving anyway. I also heard there will be a larger increase in price for the 2020s, so all things considered, I would still buy a 2019, and I do agree too, that if one could wait and buy when they are getting rid of them later in the year, you would probably do better on price on the 2019s.

    2017s have them.

OP do you have a strong desire to go new? What about used and low miles.

I'm not a fan of the "safety tech". It's personally useless to me, but still increases the price of the truck. I'm just very much a truck should be a truck type of person. Accessories can always be added for a personal touch after

Hey turners1222; thanks for the compliment! Here's a link to a video I made just this past January, of my old 1996 tacoma, before I made the decision to sell it. It is hard for me to watch though, because every time I watch it, I say "what the hell was I thinking, in giving up that good truck?"

turners1222; Dang man! 48k miles in 11 years! Oh wait a minute; we also have a 2009 Sienna that barely has 44,000 miles on it, so I get it! Wait till you see my video though, as the truck looks like new inside and out!

The noise in the cabin will be the same, and any update they release for the transmission you’d probably be able to get flashed to your truck through a TSB.

So at that point is it worth another 10k for a new Tacoma?

Don't really HAVE to go new. But the dealer I go through is discounting the 19s at around 8% off MSRP and I know they'll treat me fair on my trade since I bought it there. My driving situation has changed and I'm now doing a lot of Interstate driving. So the BSW & cruise safety features would be welcome.

Adaptive cruise is the shit. Used it on my 19 yesterday and it's just nice to have and most favorite convenience option.

For sure. Nothing wrong with luxury items. But at some at some tiers such as the TRD, some of us would rather save $1000 and not pay for features we have no use for.

But in your specific case if you know it's something you'll utilize and enjoy, then it's a non factor and go for it!

That's the color I'm looking to buy. Nice mods.
[edit] Changed my mind when I saw the 'Cement' colored Taco

I literally just did an "upgrade" from the 2016 to the 2019. I've only had it a week so nothing too in depth yet but I must say there are a few things that changed that I love. Canadian model options so we have limited choices up here. Both are the DBLCB 6ft box automatics.
    Old: 2016 DBLCB SR5 6ft Auto
New: 2019 DBLCB SR5 TRD Sport 6ft Auto

Option wise the changes were minor: Sport tuned suspension, heated seats, premium cloth seats, premium audio, mirror signals, Safety Sense, hood scoop (meh), bigger wheels, push button start, power sliding window, dual climate control, and a few other things.

Quality wise though, I found 3 things so far that are a big difference. I'm 90% certain that these are due to the improved quality over the last 3 years and not the difference between the SR5 and the TRD Sport package add on. These issues may have been addressed in the 2017 or 2018 models too, but I don't really know because I never drove them.
    1. On my 2016 I had a loud clunk changing from 2nd to 3rd when the vehicle was cold. Even after having it checked out at the dealer, transmission update, fluid checked, it still occurred. This is not an issue with the new one. I was able to recreate this with ease on my old truck in one specific section on my morning drive. I cannot recreate with the 2019.
    2. On my 2016. Transmission dropping to lower gear on the highway when not needed, aggressive when speeding back up with cruise control, etc. So far anyway, I have not had any of these issues with the 2019. Even speeding up to get to the set cruise speed it doesn't drop low and rev high, it just gives it a bit more gas in the current gear and slowly gains speed to where it was set. This may be something with Safety Sense and the radar (which is the cats a$$ btw on the highway) but either way, so much better.
    3. Traction Control, stability control was so loud if the rear tires slipped on the 2016. Startled my dad when he drove with me. Most noticeable in the winter of course which it still is here. The 2019 I can hardly notice it. No noise, I can see the light blink and kinda hear it working but not near to the extent of the 2016.
I also noticed that the cab is a bit quieter but I haven't driven a far enough distance to notice yet. I'll know more when I drive 2000 km for work next month.

So, those are the improvements I have noticed so far. I'm not sure what's coming for the 2020 like some other posters have hinted at but I will tell you that I am much happier with this new truck than I was with the 2016, which is saying a lot because i was still happy with my 2016 as well even though i had those minor issues.

Its not that - its that the seat will actually go up and down in height which means for anyone over let's say 6'1' (I'm 6'4", I might not be sitting on top of the truck anymore, and perhaps can get one with a sunroof without hitting my head. I want a 2020 DCSB OR with premium/tech, so stupidly it HAS to come with the sunroof. These Tacomas are so spartan relative to the market, why complicate and weigh things down with a sunroof in ANY trim???

My 16 has none of those issues and rides better than 19s I've been in without Fox suspension.
Same parts, same truck with ecm flash.
Number 3. noise I bet was your abs locking the wheel and your 19 will do the same.

So agree with tech requiring the sunroof thing. I'm 6'3", I'd like the wireless charging but, oh no, I have to get Limited, TRD Upgrade, or a truck with a 5' box which I don't want, and I can't fit under a sunroof in this thing.

For #3, it's when going around turns in the snow and my rear wheels slide a little bit. So the stability control or whatever it's called pumps the brakes and is loud. In my 19, it does this, but it is not loud. Also when starting on icy roads getting traction, it was also loud and the 19 isn't. I specifically tested this when it snowed the other day and our roads were icy.

I noticed a gasket between the bed rail plastics and the fenders. No driver side storage for whatever reason.
