My wife's X5 has the "comfort access" touch lock feature on all 4 doors and it is amazing. I've never run into a situation where it was even close to a security issue. With push-button start, you never have to touch the keys. So nice.

I would expect that in a $50k vehicle but, yes, features like that will spoil you.

They can get rid of both of them as far as I’m concerned. I never used those on my 2016 and am not using the one on my 2019. Can’t put anything of value in there because, they’re not lockable unless you install your own locks.

I felt the same way until I had them. The blind side monitor and backup sensors are great. Don’t use cruise control much but, it is better than manual cruise. Isn’t some of this stuff government mandated? Government mandates have added quite a bit to vehicle prices over the years.

I'll raise your digression with a segue. Some of my loaner ford's have the keyless entry. If I'm on the driver's side, my friend can't unlock the passenger door until I unlock the drivers door. It knows which side the key is on, and you can control unlocks via settings.

On the other hand, since I've been in loaners for almost a year, I have little memory of what I'm driving. I started putting groceries in my car once and some lady came up to me and said "excuse me, what are you doing". I apologetically took my bags out and went over two spaces to where my identical make/model/color car was. She was close enough still that the touchless system still worked lol.

Well I bit the bullet and upgraded. My assessment so far is...

Noise: The '19 Double is definitely quieter than my old '16 Access. Typical driving is quieter and the vent flaps haven't popped open (yet) letting in all that extra road noise in at highway speeds.

Shifting: Highway shifting is updated (probably could have been applied to my '16). No more excessive downshifting on hills.

Smoother Ride: The bumps seem the same, but the minor dips, like manhole covers or shallow potholes, are hardly noticeable now.

I miss the cubby-hole in the bed. Have to find a new place to stash my bungee cords.
I like the sensing cruise control.
I like the Blind Spot Warning (tech package). The wife said I need it.
They did away with the compass in the rear-view mirror.

Do you mod your taco like lift, front grille, or bigger tire? Then it would be a downgrade. You would lose the warranty on the tss . There's some thread on this.

Thanks for the info. I put a Pro grille on my '16 but don't plan on dong it on my '19.

I did install a rearview mirror with Homelink and compass ($40), and put some black plastic letters ($12) on the tailgate. I also plan on installing a remote start in the fall. Winters are brutal in Iowa.

Ditto all your points. I had the same experience going from my 2016 to 2019 Tacoma. I had all the tsb’s applied to my 2016 and find the 2019 improved over the 2016 in the same ways you mention.

something to watch for with the blind spot monitoring....I never had it either till this truck and I started getting spoiled. Couple months ago I went to switch lanes, checked my mirror, the bsm wasn't lit and did a halfass shoulder check and nothin. so I started to go...turns out there was a motorcycle chillin back there and the truck didn't pick it up and either did I cause I got accustomed to trusting the bsm. Almost ran them off the road. Scared the shit out of me and I've since turned it off and check by looking. Thats just my experience with it......Enjoy the new truck!

Where did you get the Homelink mirror for such a good price? That's a steal

Got it off eBay. It's used but in excellent condition. Guy wanted $50 or best offer. I offered him $40 and he took it. Just bided my time and kept searching for 'gentex homelink' and a good deal finally popped up. Look closely too. Mirrors are available with/without compass or with the hidden or exposed compass.

You do have to use a 12-10 pin adapter because the mirrors have a 10 pin socket and the Tacoma has a 12 pin plug. I've seen a complete adapter on eBay for $30 or just the 10 pin pigtail for $15 or less. Some mirrors even come with the connector still attached. I had the stuff to make one. I used a connector and cable from an old USB computer card (any old computer geek will have one laying around), then strip and tin the wires and insert them into the same holes (3-GND, 6-ACC & 10-12V) in the 12 pin connector.

I went from a 2016 AC 2.7 AT to a 2019 DC V6 AT. I loved my 2016, but the 2019 gets a little better fuel economy, the cabin is quieter, and while I had no complaints about the 2016’s transmission, the 2019 shifts perfectly IMO. As mentioned the 2019 has the TSS, some love it, some don’t. I’m on the fence about it as I know repair cost will be higher.
