Any reason NOT to get TSB 0062-18 done?

2018 Tacoma. Really have no problems with it, the shifting, or the way it drives. The only thing that I don't like is that when I am on the freeway and need to hit the gas to pass, it revs up to 5500rpm for a couple seconds. Really don't see any stumble or delay though. From what I have read, this revving up to 5500 is normal for this engine.

The dealer is trying to talk me out of the update; they will do it if I want; but they say if I am satisfied then they encourage people not to change anything.

So, given this, any reason NOT to get it done?

It is a one way street as far as I know. I haven't seen CUWs for the older calibrations and even if they existed you'd have to modify them to target the new calibration. Hard to say what the outcome will be but it no doubt is going to change things so if you're happy maybe don't bother. The vast majority prefer the update though, myself included.

I have no issues with my truck so therefore I won't be getting the update. But I can't think of any reason for discouraging people from doing it, especially if they don't like how the truck drives.

I’m at 4500 miles... going in next week for the 5k and trans reflash. I’m not unhappy but I can tell it needs major improvement and I know I’ll be happier down the road.

Have the update installed. Its an all around improve to the truck. Better shifting, better throttle response and improved city fuel economy following the update.

I was thinking the same thing, but have not seen any real negative to getting the update done. I haven’t had any shifting issues on mine but guess I just won’t know what I’m missing until it’s updated.

    Too much.
Weird, I have a 2018 and I have a throttle dead zone between 40 and 60 MPH when the traffic slows down on my commute, and it is maddening.

Interestingly enough, on my commute, I find my highway mileage to be worse than non-highway mileage.....

The only time I talk customers out of TSB's is when they don't exhibit the condition and simply want what they printed out.

You have normal conditions for the tacoma, its annoying and the TSB won't stop it from downshifting on the highway due to lack of power.

You can try getting the flash by complaining of surging and hesitation on highway, but it won't resolve the characteristics of the truck and its specific motor.

Did mine and love it - however, I DO get a little lower MPG - but that is because it is so peppy now I have the tendency to drive it more like a sports car!

Like you I had the same dilemma . I don’t have any issues regarding the shifting that I couldn’t adapt to. I just step on the gas more than I used to. Yesterday, I bit the bullet and requested Toyota of ==== to do the update. My advisor whom I had known for a while ( always went to him for several years now ) was very receptive and just said ok when I told him his tech won’t be able to replicate the stumble here. I’m sure glad I had the new tsb ecu update. Now I don’t have to really step hard on the gas to get going. It drives like my wife’s 4 runner and used to be my 2013 Fj . It’s very preppy. 5th and 6th gears are now usable.

Only real "issue" with mine in 1500 miles is a dead spot right after the 3-4 shift where it seems to bog a little, then recover...debating on the update, but not entirely convinced yet.

I'm happy with my 18 and don't plan to get the update. If it ain't broke, no need to fix it.

So my dealership said multiple people complained of power loss after the update. Has anyone experienced this? I have a feeling they were full of shit, but I figured I would ask here before pulling the trigger.

I love it! About time Toyota did something about this.
