Any reason NOT to get TSB 0062-18 done?

DON'T DO IT ! You said you are happy with the trans....it will adjust to your driving in a couple thousand miles anyway. Best way to be unhappy is to have something done that is not necessary. My vin is on the TSB list; however, it drives like a dream truck. No way I will experiment unnecessarily ! Period. Good luck.

Where do you find the TSB list to see if your VIN is on the list?

I remember I said those same exact words when I had my truck brand new, I thought it drove like a dream. Once you break into the 10k-20k mileage you’ll find the dead pedal effect quickly trying to merge/pass people, hilly area on the highway or mountains. Instead of passing people you hit the breaks and just fall in line cuz the power/throttle response won’t kick in. If your in flat areas all day or drive like a grandma won’t notice what’s wrong.

Having adding extra weight to the truck and 33” tires the truck hauls ass after the TSB. I don’t know why anyone wouldn’t want a TSB when they will be added from the factory at some point.

That’s like saying I’m not going to update my phone/apps or laptops software cuz I’m scarred what may happen. Although if you have apple products sometimes that does happen lmao. Our trucks run by a computer....it needs updates.

i have not gotten the update yet. i live in a fairly hilly area and find i need ECT to perk things up to have some control going uphill.
from what i am reading about this update, it gets perkier and maybe i won't need to drop into ECT at
the first sign of a hill. Is that the case? Does ECT still do much for you after getting the update?

i have been using S mode and ECT to compensate and wondering if i should go for the update.

I won’t be updating for the few times it annoys me at risk of losing my current mpg. And yep TRD OR 4WD.

I’m on the fence also with the update. I live in the Shenandoah Valley of VA and there are some moderate sized hills. The truck does not do bad going uphill but I feel it could use some more pep. The cruise control sucks. When I drop into 4th because of a hill the fucker don’t want to upshift to 5-6 unless I somehow get it to. I mean it will but it takes way to long to do so. I’m getting the as advertised 22mpg highway and actually about 19 in town. It’s odd because I think the truck drives as expected but just a little more improvement would be killer. I guess we will see what kinda mood I’m in when I get my 5,000mi service.

An 8 mile trip really is not long enough to base fuel mileage. One downshill section will skew the results.

This is post TSB for me.

I’m also in the Valley (Rockbridge) and my 18 Sport drives great. I have none of the problems solved by the 58/62-18. I am going to McDonough Toyota next week for the 5000 mile service. I have a printed out copy of the TSB in the consol, but am not mentioning it. I don’t want anything to change for the worst. Maybe it will need it at the 10k or 15k service.

I don't understand why some are worried about getting this update. Its a great improvement for the truck in everyway. I personally have it for +-4000 miles and fully recommend that all 3rd gens get this update.

I'm willing to bet that the 2019s will have this as the new factory calibration.

Where can we get notified of the TSB’s? The only thing I have found is where I have to pay to be notified.

I had asked at my dealership and received the same response, if I was happy don’t do the update because they cannot un-do it. They had one customer who was very unhappy after the update, that’s what he based his comment on. I’ve been waiting to have a chance to drive a Tacoma with the update before I make any change. Like you, I am not unhappy with how it drives now.

I already get that MPG(highway, 18-2 city) and that was before the TSB, and it stayed the same after.

8miles is not good enough to do an accurate assessment, somewhere around 25miles it's more like it, although if it's all highway I suppose it doesn't matter.

Just curious, I haven't had any major problems or complaints I just do notice that it lacks power but knew that buying a v6 278?! I think HP truck etc. Its an offroad truck not a sport car or hemi V8.

But what exactly do you tell Toyota, I'm due for a service here in a bit and figured why not get the update. Do you have to show them something or what exactly do you tell them, hey I want the new TSB trans update?

Thanks and apologies for any noobieness.

I had the 58-18 and 62-18 done about a month ago. Prior to this reflash my 2018 TRD OR got around 19-20 mixed driving--mostly in town. Highway mileage was 22-24. After the update the mpg went down to 16 under the same mixed driving conditions. I also noted an initial improvement with the throttle response but the improvement sure seams to have "disappeared"! If I had it to do over again, given my experience, I would not let them do the update. BTW, just returned from a trip from N. AZ to S. Utah pulling an aluminum trailer with a Polaris Rzr (total wt 1800 to 2000 lbs) and got an average mpg for the trip of 11. The truck stayed in 4th-3k rpm-65 mph most of the time with a frequent down shift to 3rd on hills and only upshifted to 5th on long down hills--IT NEVER went into 6th. This is my 5th Tacoma (1998-2004-2005-2010-2012 Jeep Wrangler-2018 TRD OR) and its performance and constant gear searching is a real disappointment. My earlier 2010 TRD OR sure seemed to have a lot more low end torque!!

    YMMV

    Cheers,

    db

True, but its my commute to and from work, haven't had the TSB, this is not a freak occurance, and it wasn't highway, in town, 35-45 mph streets with lights.
