Just wondering, any reason to avoid the 2016s? I'm shopping around for new, but figured I could put the used option on the table if I find a good enough deal.

    Thanks!

We got our '17 brand new TRD OR for less than a '16 used one with 22k miles.

Wait a month or two and get a 17 as the 18's are coming out.

I would go new over used. more than likely most people who traded '16s in probably had an issue. If you're getting a deal I would do an extended test drive and make sure everything checks out and your happy.

Here's the problem trying to buy a used tacoma..

    • hard to find the model + color that you want
    • Sticker price is on par with new MSRP maybe a couple thousand less
    • If you plan to take a loan, the APR is going to be double because the car is used (unless you are military/private credit union and get discounts)
    • rolling the dice on it being permanently damaged in some way...
    Very few benefits
    • It MAYBE possibly easier to work off the price
    • You may be able to get a certified one with extended warranty
I would buy this particular car new. good luck.

$34,000 sticker new truck or a truck with 50k miles on it for $28,000. The amazingly high resale value of these trucks makes it hard to buy used.

I bought my 2016 brand new 1.5 years ago for 32.5k. I recently sold it to a local dealership for 31k with 22,000 miles on it. They are selling it for 36.5k.

Just buy it new, the used Tacoma market makes absolutely no sense.

Like any used car... Take it for an extensive test drive. Some guys hate the transmission on these, some don't. If you aren't a mechanic, I'd have a mechanic you trust look it over thoroughly.

Everyone is saying how much the Used are compared to new... IF you can find a good deal on a good one, go for it. Keep in mind that someone didn't like it enough to keep it for more than a year.

Lot of Problematic Turd Gens out there. You could be picking up somebody's POS Turd. I wouldn't chance it at all!!!

Anybody who says they bought a New one for less than a Used one of the same trim/config etc is losing their marbles and has not a clue of how to negotiate a good deal. My dad (as a dealership owner) loved those people.

Just buy new as others have stated, for whatever reason Tacoma resales are still sky high. For the record I have an early 2016 and other than the shift detent SB my truck has been excellent with no issues.

@Horsethief long story short... the 16 draws a lot of feelings... Some did not care for theirs(I believe @smitty99 was not a fan), some think theirs is fine. Test drive it like a mofo if you decide to go used.

I just traded in a 2009 Regular cab 4x2 that I paid $18000 when it was new on a new 2017 4x4. The dealer has my trade on his lot for $8500
Not what they gave me, but the point remains, they hold their value.

Note to others, if trading yours in, hold the line on what you want for it, because they will when they sell it.

Get a '17. Find out the common issues from this forum and then go shopping. Buying new is probably your best bet though.
