Just checking but I don't think an 09 Tacoma let alone one with 135k miles can be certified under Toyotas CPO.

I don't think it's a matter of taking your chances . Tacomas are great rigs both new and used. But at least here on the far left coast :). The pre owned market is bat shit crazy ! A 16 is priced like a new Tacoma .

I wasn't baiting man, I was actually anticipating to see what he'd have to say on the topic. I find his posts entertaining, dude tells it like it is.

... This is why I always make buying new, plan A. No mystery stains on the backseat either.

I bought a new 17 over a 16 due to price- I actually bought 17 $2000 dollars cheaper than a used one that I priced. I bought it during the week they had $1000 cash off and I got way more out of trade in on a new one. Plus if you go new many of the bugs have been worked out and you get more warranty. And another plus is way more to choose from.

Thanks to everyone who responded! I appreciate all your input. I'm new here, but I love this forum so far, I've gotten such great response to my questions

Anyway, you guys confirmed what I was thinking. When I first got interested in a Taco, I started looking used then quickly realized prices are nuts. On Autotrader I see used ones the same if not more than discounted new ones.

All the reasons to get new make sense, plus, I've always bought used and at almost 40 (yikes!) I've never had a new car.

only reason that I actually asked this question was that I saw 16 Tacoma specced pretty much exactly how I want it for what looked like a decent price at a Volvo dealer..

I think with it being almost the end of the year I can probably get a great deal on a 17 model soon, so I'll just focus on those.

Wasn't you I was referring to, the Smitty baiter already got banned and post deleted. Sometimes it's hard to say what the mods will think about calling him into a thread like this so I was just warning you... I agree though, by virtue of owning a 16, he's got more insight than a lot

The dealer can if they wish to--in this instance they sold the truck new and exclusively serviced it throughout the original owner's time having it.

Just ask yourself how you want to use the Truck.
I had a 2005 TRD OR MT that I put 300,000 miles on with just fluid changes and a new battery. Would have kept on going if I didn't total it in an accident... And I beat the shit out of that thing, neglected oil changes etc... I am sold on Taco reliability.

Recently I was trying to decide if I should buy a brand new Tacoma. I was looking at the 2017 TRD 4x4 OR MT, or the SR 2.7 4x4 MT. The 2.7 was going to cost me 26-27k, and the TRD 35k ish... And you really have to throw interest into the total cost, so in the end add a few thousand to each price tag!!!!!!!!!! < ( I think people always forget that the same interest rate = more $ for a more expensive loan )

Personally, I like to actually use my truck on the trails to go hunting and shooting, I drive out in the desert at least once a month, and when I do I usually get pin stripes from trees and bushes.
I ended up buying ( getting a loan ) for a 2008 2.7 MT with 85k on it for 15,000$.. So in the end I ended up paying half the money for a reliable vehicle. I don't baby my trucks, and I'm glad I didn't buy brand new for the financial perspective. Don't get me wrong, I would love a new shiney truck, but then I would feel bad about every little scratch.

On my recently purchased 2.7, someone keyed the truck right after I got it. ( I assume it was a cop hater who saw me walk out of my truck in uniform. ) Anyway, after it got the huge key scratch, I ended up off roading, and my fender and mud flap got torn off from the deep sticky mud.. The truck has multiple new scratches, and I put it to good use.. I cannot imagine how I would feel if all that shit happened to a brand new truck...
You really have to ask yourself what you will really use it for? Is it going to be a status symbol, or are you going to do some awesome fun hillbilly shit?:D

I do everything with my 2.7 4x4 MT that I did with my TRD OR MT aside from towing my dads big ass boat. Ya, the rear locker is cool, but I would sure rather have the extra 20,000$ dollars in my wallet. Sure, I might have to do some work on the truck here and there, but in the end I will still have saved tens of thousands of dollars, AND I can take my truck out to the desert and have a blast getting out to the crazy spots with my friends who envy how bad ass my truck is compared to their SUV/Cars.

I don't make a ton of money working for the government, so getting a used truck really made sense to me... BTW, my bank approved the loan amount for a brand new taco, I just chose to spend 20,000$ less and buy used.

    YMMV

Edit : I don't mind putting my used truck to good use, and actually off roading with it through bushes and shit... I would never do the same kind of off roading with a brand new truck. In the end, I saved about 20,000$ buying the used truck instead of a new truck.

There are plenty of second gen tacos in great condition for a great price, that were probably used as pavement princesses. At the end of the day, it's your money, spend it however you want, the majority of peoples opinions on the internet are meaningless.

The only reason to avoid a used Tacoma IMO would be due to the resale value being so high. Might as well get new.

Agree with everyone else. I try not to buy anything new (cars, boats, motorcycles, etc.), but after searching for several months, gave up on the used pricing. There's still 2015's and 2016's on the dealers lot that are higher priced than a new one, and some, the asking price is higher than my OTD price.

The only thing that surprised me was the amount of negotiating they're now doing on Tacoma's. The last time I looked at them many moons ago, they stand firm very close to MSRP.
