I've been using AVG for a long time with no issues. It's also running on my sons Windows 7 netbook.

CCleaner and SpyBot are not Anti-Virus programs. They are the some of the best utilities to use after you get infected...

Who is your Internet provider ? Comcast users can download a free version of Norton Essentials for their home use...

Linux. I've been virus free since I switched over a year ago, and I haven't looked back. My computer is also way faster, boots up in about 8 seconds, and never feels like its bogged down.

Linux takes some getting used to, but so far, there isn't any program that I used on Windows that I haven't found a replacement for (or a way to safely run it) on Linux.

Been a diehard AVG Free fan for ages. Recently switched to MS Security Essentials and I'm converted.
Anti-virus is more of a formality for me anyway. Don't be a retard with your internet usage and you won't get viruses.

+1 for Linux. Mandriva is my favorite distro.

Avast + Malware Bytes + CCleaner = no problems ever

If you get that annoying Antivirus 2010 or similar malware, the combination above is the key.

I had a virus sneak in that changed my administrator rights, and that had a direct affect on the update feature. took alot of digging just to find it.

The live body (rare) I talked to at MS reccomended superantispyware, and that fixed the problem.

Superantispyware and MS Security Essentials here.

x3 on Microsoft Security Essentials. This is the best free alternative I have seen in a while. Also if you are switching to MSE or any of the other free programs, it's a good idea to go to the website of your previous AV program and see if they have any 'cleaner' or 'uninstall utility' for their program. Many AV programs do not uninstall cleanly and AV programs can conflict with each other sometimes.
