I'm wanting some binoculars for bird identification. As usual I've learned it's often better to buy quality the first time. I'm bit clueless on this subject. 10 x 42mm seem to be the size I need, but not sure what to buy. I'm in the Nikon family for DSLR photography, but open to any quality brand. Hoping to be in the +/- $150 range. Thanks!

Birders rarely use 10x binoculars or zoom binocs, they tend to use 6-8x with a good field of view. I'd suggest checking something like audobon.org for advice on what to look for.

I use 10X binoculars because I want to see further than 8X can provide...lol

Recommend looking on STP. They usually have decent deals on close out binoculars. Costco has good deals, but I haven't seen what they have lately.

If you like Nikon, they have good glass. I have several Steiners...found them to be darn good binoculars for the money, but they fall short of the "high end" (Leica, Zeiss, Swarovski, etc.) binoculars. Bottom line: you get what you pay for, so whatever you decide to buy, keep looking for it to go on sale.

    back to bone stock.
10x42. I bought 10x50 and love them but the size gets annoying sometimes on long hunting trips. Hunters and birders share a few needs. What changed my life was mounting my binoculars onto a tripod. It’s like watching the world in HDTV. No minuscule vibrations.

not all binoculars have an option to mount them to a tripod. Vortex is really good at it.

I bought Leica glass. I had to modify my binoculars and it almost gave me a heart attack. It didn’t void my warranty. Sad to report. I hurt them in a fall, and they replaced a lens free.
