I had a GMC Canyon with the extended cab and 6' box prior to my Tacoma. I wanted a full crew cab for my next truck. I ended up settling on my current Tacoma which is DCSB. I thought I'd miss that 6' box far more than I actually do. It helps that I have a bed extender but, truthfully, I don't really need that. I haul mountain bikes quite frequently and it still easily gets the job done.

My first Tacoma back in 2012 was an access cab but I quickly found I needed extra cab space more than I needed an extra foot of bed space. I've had three DCSB Tacomas along the way and never hauled anything that didn't either fit in the bed or couldn't be remedied by flipping the tailgate down (only had to do that once that I can think of).

I agree! I have zero regrets getting a short bed. I use my bed and not once have I needed that extra foot of bed space.

I went from a 2nd gen DCLB to a 3rd gen DCSB and the 6 ft bed was nice a few times of year but in the long run, the shorter wheel base is so much easier to drive and park in tight spaces. We have been remodeling and I haven't noticed much loss as far as carrying 8 ft boards and such, I just use a few more straps than I used to.

Same. A bed extender helps for hauling lumber.

"Long bed". Long bed Tacoma's are for farmers and poor contractors. If you care about bed space, then you are shopping in the wrong truck segment and should be looking at full size trucks with actual long beds.

If I could go back and do it again, I'd go with the ACLB this time, instead of my DCSB. I always tell myself I need back seats but I've had someone back there maybe 3-4 times in the past few years.

Main reason: Two 10ft kayaks in the short bed sucks.

A foot doesn’t make any difference really, unless you plan on sleeping in the bed.

Ive used my 5ft bed to haul a lot of stuff numerous times and never an issue.

Just get a bed extender and leave the tailgate down. Tie off a red flag to whatever you’re hauling. Now you have an extra foot plus the extra seats.

I’d argue that if you’re not using your truck as a work truck, the utility of having extra seats is probably more important than having an extra 1’ of bed length.

I will say the ACLB is a better looking truck tho haha

My next truck, if I ever get another Tacoma, will likely be an ACLB. I would like to be able to sleep in the back more easily when I’m camping in the winter etc. I find I rarely have more than 1 passenger anyways.

I would not get the longer wheelbase of the DCLB for the areas I go when off-road. The short wheelbase is a must for turning the truck around.

My only regret is that quads or bikes will likely have to sit partially on the tail gate.

I came the opposite direction. I had an extended cab in my last truck and wanted a crew cab. I never really have anyone back there either but I do frequently put things back there, especially during road trips. The extra space of the crew cab is nice for that purpose. Plus, with my old extended cab I ended up just using the back portion for storage so when I did need it for someone it was kind of a pain in the ass to move everything around.

I was really worried going down to a 5' bed from a 6.5' bed on an extended cab F150 would be a pain. Contemplated for a long time about a 6' or 5'. I ended up with the 5' and so far have had no issues in 2.5 years of not being able to haul something that I would have hauled in my 6.5' bed. An 8' 2x12 doesn't fit in a 6' bed just like it doesn't fit in a 5' bed. I haul mountain bikes, camping gear, lumber, bulk mulch and landscape rock and have hauled household furniture and such. No issues so far. I have however enjoyed the double cab versus the extended/access cab. If for no other reason than doors that open the correct way. My F150 suicide doors on the rear drove me crazy. I do haul 2 Golden Retrievers often in my back seat area. The double cab works well for that.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
Only thing going in the bed of my truck is empty Pabst Blue Ribbon cans that I toss out the back slider window, so 5' works for me.

On a serious note, I don't haul shit around, so it works for me. Maybe the dog will go back there in his travel crate, and some camping gear.

    Thank you sir!

I painted the centercaps black. Didn’t like how my amber fogs looked with the red trd centercaps.
