Any regrets getting a 5' bed?

No regrets here, although like some others I have another truck with a true 8' bed I use if I need to haul something large. I've also gotten in the habit of going and renting a high-sided utility trailer for dump runs or heavy things I don't want to load in the bed of a truck.

I've also had one of my Quads in the back with the tailgate down (tied-down securely of course). Not issues. For me I needed room for three people and an AC just wouldn't work. Plus I really wanted a M/T so that made my choice easier LOL Honestly though if my Taco were my only truck I likely still would have gone with the SB.

I have a 4' bed and love it. Actually it's a 5' bed with a 1' cargo box. It really depends on how you'll be using the truck. I often have to park in cramped parking structures and in those damn things every inch matters. The main "truck" use for me is trips to the home store for dirt, plants, mulch, lumber, pipe, etc, etc, etc. I've only occasionally wished for a bigger bed when hauling sheet rock and 4x8 plywood. Then I think of the MFing parking structures and that wish goes away.

In 8 years there are only a couple scenarios where I thought a LB would have been nice. First one is on longer trips we bring obscene amounts of gear for camping, climbing, biking, kayaking, fishing but we have always made it work with a 5 foot bed. Sleeping in the bed is the other reason I have wanted more space. If I remember right the 2014 OR didn't have the option for a 6 foot bed. When my son starts driving and I hand over the keys to him, I will likely get a DCLB.

Before I got my Tacoma I had a 1982 Pickup with a 7 foot bed. The picture doesn't do it justice! I do regret selling her though.

No regrets, Ive hauled long lumber 12' in the 5' bed and have anchored it down. yes a longer bed would have been nice but not necessary for me to have one everyday when you can just be resourceful a few times every year.

The double cab is nice and provides a good amount of storage space compared to the AC. I use the interior space more than the exterior

Somewhat silly factor for us as well is like said we needed a truck or we had bought 4r; the DC space is more important to me for work (IT gear, laptops, PCs, servers, camera gear, etc). Stuff I don't want in the back for my daily duties.

    Check build thread!
I don't have a 5ft bed tacoma, but I did have a 5.5 ft bed f150 and Sierra, and I hated it on the basis of how hard it was to load a dirtbike with the tailgate closed. I just think the extra foot to park with etc is so worth it for the convience.

Sometimes. Mostly when you see a killer deal on either a decked drawer system for a 6' or a Softopper being sold.

A long bed is better for sleeping in. Other then that, a short bed will haul anything a long bed will. I have a short bed, haul frequently and have not come close to having a load that would not fit in a short bed that would fit in a long bed.

I don’t regret the short bed. I needed this size so it would fit in the garage without taking up too much space. That said, you do have to get creative at times when hauling something like plywood or drywall - but that’s a rare occurrence for me.

I also don’t think having a longer bed would have solved my minor inconveniences - it would take a full-size pickup to make hauling more convenient.

No. I got it so that it would fit in my garage with no issues and plenty of space. Coming from the f150 this bed is a lot smaller, but I honestly never really needed a larger bed as I only use it for random stuff and can just keep the tailgate down

I came from a 2nd gen AC with 6ft bed and it was a tough choice for me, when shopping for my next truck. We needed the double cab now, so it was looking like I was going to have to get used to the idea of a 5ft bed. Was looking at the idea of getting a '22 Trail Ed, also looking at used Pros and TRDOR. Just so happened that my friend who is sales manager at a Chevy dealer got a TRDOR DCLB in on trade. So we talked and I decided that was probably the best choice for me. I haul my MX bikes (mostly 1 but sometimes 2 at a time) and really use the bed a lot (going to our cabin, mountain biking, ski trips etc.) Many of my trips, whether to the races or cabin, the 6ft bed was packed in my last truck. So I was really worried that the 5ft bed was just too small. I think I could've certainly gotten by with the 5ft bed but I'm glad I got the truck that I did. Yes, parking it is a bit harder, and around town in the tight areas it is slightly more of a chore. Overall driving, I don't really notice it now though. Plus, I actually think it looks cooler. The AC w 6ft bed looks the best, but then I'd say DCLB and finally DCSB. Just my input, but you gotta get what truck fits your lifestyle the best.

Carrying people and something i could carry small metal working in was what i needed so the 5' bed works great. Plus my 95 has a 7' bed so that takes care of anything on the longer side

Depends on your indented use. For me I wanted interior space and a 6’ bed. When I was younger and single I had an AC and loved it.

Nope. The DCSB has the large/flat back seat platform for my dogs and it fits in my garage.

I went back and forth between short and long bed before I bought mine (last year when you could still actually get pretty much anything you wanted). I haul around a good amount of gear for work, but my SB still has enough space for that. The LB seemed nice for hauling the occasional mattress, couch, sheets of plywood, etc... But in all reality I just put the tailgate down on my SB, throw a strap or 2 over it, and hauling those things has been no problem.

I needed a DC for my family, and the DCSB fits in my garage, the DCLB wouldn’t. The SB has a lot better turn radius than the DCLB, so it’s a little easier to maneuver into tight places. My DCSB doesn’t stick out into the street when I park it at a storefront, etc.. which is nice too.

Another thing that influenced my decision (which may not even apply nowadays with the crazy shortages and inflation)... I was able to haggle about $3500 off the sticker for my DCSB because they had it there sitting on the lot and they wanted to make a deal... Even a year ago, a DCLB was still a lot harder to find (especially in a particular color), so I would’ve had to special order it, or have one brought in from a different dealer, which means they weren’t going to negotiate.

I have 2 neighbors with DCLBs, and I do think “what if” sometimes, haha. But all in all, I’m very happy with my DCSB and I made the right choice for me.

No regrets here. if I wanted a longer bed I would have gotten a Tundra or gone back to a F-150. Really if it's not a full size bed, I don't get much more utility out of it.
