Well, oddly enough I don't have a pic of all three in my truck, but I got this one from last weekend with two in. If you zoom in you can clearly see the tailgate can close. To get three in, you just put one far left, one far right and the last bike in the middle backwards . They are all 125cc. You can also load a 250cc on an angle. I haven't tried two 250s yet. I'll post a pic a couple weekends from now with all three in, tailgate closed.

I know its an old thread revived, but I'll play:
I absolutely wish I had a 6' bed. Having a camper shell with a 5' bed has opened my eyes to how absolutely useful a camper shell is. Having another foot of room would drastically change my entire truck's build (I'd build a sleep platform/do away with RTT altogether).

Can't argue with that...I'm not a camper shell enthusiast but I have tried laying flat on the bed and see it is rather cramped.

Even laying at an angle was uncomfortable.

I won't be needing to do that anytime soon. lol

Definitely agree. I've done it one time. What I realized was, it wasn't completely unbearable trying it out for a few mins at home, and it was pretty unbearable trying it out at camp. Not to mention, sleeping diagonally requires the rest of the bed to pretty much be completely empty. In not so ideal conditions, I would prefer to keep gear and supplies inside the bed and dry. My most ideal setup would be a bed platform/drawer setup in a 6' bed, allowing all gear underneath, some gear up top, and a full size area to sleep comfortably.

I could care less about the ability to haul larger things in the bed and the difference between 5 and 6' there; for anything hauling wise, thats what trailers are for, and I'd still choose a trailer simply for the ease even if I had a 6' bed.

    Check build thread!
I've done it- don't have a picture, but what you do is put the rear wheel on the tailgate. One thing a long bed can do that a short cannot, is haul a dirtbike with the tailgate up and towing a trailer.

3 full size bikes do not sit with the tailgate closed. 1 has to be sideways to fit.

DCSB here and it's been good for us however if I could go back I would get a DCLB. There have been several situations where the extra bed length would have been nice. No garage or other tight quarters to factor in for 95% of our use.

Those must be really small because with just my ktm 300xcw it needs to be on an angle to close the tailgate on my dclb.

I think the shirt beds look the best and are better for off-roading but I wanted the bike and camp gear with the tailgate closed.

Double cab long bed would have been sick but my garage barely fits my short bed with the bike rack on it haha!

I'm in the camp of DCLB would have been my preference if...

In my case, it was needing to decide between DCSB 6MT or DCLB AT, and when such a choice is forced on me, the third pedal under the dash will always win. In the 19 months since I've had my truck I think I've only been unable to fit my intended load in the 5' bed three or four times; the most recent two were:
    1. I bought a 65" TV for our new home and the 10 mile trip from the store to home was made with the tailgate down and a ratchet strap securing the TV
    2. I had to move all of the parts for the old 1960s vintage 9' Brunswick Gold Crown pool table I'm donating from our storage locker to our home; the outfit I'm donating it to will be picking it all up on Monday and wanted the parts in one place. Given I didn't think I could fit the frame in the bed of my truck, or even our old 1996 Ford F150 with the 8' bed, much less the three crated 300 pound slates, I figured it would be easier to move the parts to our house. Once again, ratchet strap to the rescue for the bits hanging out the back over the tailgate.

I know this is an older thread, but since I purchased my truck in 2021, this should give me a free pass. ;) My answer is: "No regrets". I started out looking for a 2nd gen V6 DC LB. I mostly wanted the LB for the longer wheelbase which usually improves the ride and towing performance: After a long search, I couldn't find one unless it was a sad, clapped-out mess with a questionable frame. I ended up with a 5' bed with everything I wanted.

After almost three years owning it no regrets: It's easier to park, the ride is acceptable, (no Tacoma of any generation has a good ride with the "old school" leaf springs). I could have used a 6' bed a few times for transfer-station dump runs, but when I did have to put the tailgate down, I just put the long stuff in first and piled all heavier stuff on top of it, strapped it all down with too many ratchet-straps and tied a red shop rag onto one of the main 4x8's. (I didn't even have to use my Sawzall on anything, which is a shame... I love using that thing)

I hauled that old pressure-treated kid's swing-set with everything on it that weighed a ton to the station and it did fine...(though the rear was a little saggy. ) I'm sure it was well over the payload, tow and everything-else rating, but I didn't have a full tank of gas, it was way past any warranty, the dog stayed home so there's 75 lbs saved and the local cops just waved or ignored me, so it was all good!

    "Toyota Tacoma: You'll be fine!"
