Try to adjust the flywheel to pickup coil gap. It's easy, get any business card and stick it in between. That's all you need. It's magnetic so it well hold the card in there while you tighten the bolts. If it is a husky child are very common to burn out on the consumer saws( like the ones at lowes) non xp

Gas I had mixed was 40:1. New premixed gas is 50:1

I’m sure DEC would love that. Right now it doesn’t even make a good paper weight.

New one in the mail, if that doesn’t work I’ll try the flywheel adjustment

I hear your frustration, was in a similar situation with my Husqvarna 359. It would start cold just fine, run for a bit, then wouldn't idle and wouldn't fire back up. Wanted to steamroll the thing a few times. I couldn't figure it out and neither could the best local shop.
Ended up shipping it to a guy named Chainsaw Jim who tuned & ported it and the thing runs like a banshee now. It needed a different carb diaphragm and the plastic intake clamp replaced with a metal one.

You say you cleaned the carburetor and fuel lines. If you used any type of carburetor cleaner without disassembling the carburetor and it soaked the rubber o-rings or diaphragms, most likely they are swollen and no good. If this is the case, your new carburetor should do the trick. You may want to pull the spark plug and let the cylinder dry out before you try to start it.

I took the entire carb apart and sprayed it out. Sprayed out the old fuel lines and it ran. Afterwards and then after running for about 5 min wouldn’t fire again. After that I replaced the lines, filter, and gas cap and put in a new plug. Tried both the old plug and new. Still won’t start. Tried to adjust the carb and still nothing.

Get the compression checked. Just because it feels bumpy doesn't mean it has enough. These things are like brake rotors, barely enough to get it out the door. (and last the 20 hours you paid for, they have it figured out.)

    First and foremost;

This saw is really pissing me off!

That being said I installed the new carb. Gave it a few pulls and nothing. Looked and realized I had the E3 plug in there. Swapped it with the NGK and it started to want to crank. You could tell it was igniting but just barely. Took the side cover off and looked at the flywheel. Took off the ignition module and cleaned up the contacts. Also took a wire brush to the mounting bolts and cleaned them to get a solid ground contact. Put a little dielectric grease on there to stop any corrosion and help with the ground. Tried to fire it up and basically the same thing. Tried moving the module as far away from the flywheel as possible and didn’t notice a difference. Then I grabbed a business card and set it to that. Didn’t seem to catch as much trying to start but still had similar results.

So now I’m wondering if I ditch the premixed fuel I bought from homedepot to replace the old fuel I had.

I’ll go buy premium with no ethanol, and some oil and mix it. If fresh gas isn’t going to get this running at this point I’m not sure what all options are left. Maybe change the ignition module?

Premium vs regular 2 cycle mix shouldn't make a differance. 2 cycles run on just about everything...

Will it start with starting fluid? If it does it's a fuel problem, if not it's ignition or compression

That sucks @Lawfarin, I know the feeling of wanting to throw it through the wall.

Does yours have an intake clamp? My plastic one was leaking and causing similar issues. Replaced with a metal one.

Also a dumb thing but the carb gasket turned out to be incorrect for my Zama

Punched the missing hole and now it fires up nice both hot and cold.

I didn’t try starting fluid. Maybe I’ll just grab a can of that instead of getting new gas.

No intake clamp. The filter housing just attaches to the carb with a boot. It’s weird because when I was replacing the carb I thought the front had a gasket and it was missing. Ended up watching the repair video the place I ordered the carb from (Repair clinic) has and they don’t show one in the video. So at first I thought that was the issue but then realized it wasn’t.

The carb that’s on there is brand new so all the seals and s tuff should be good. Even the seals on the old one seemed fine. I just ordered a brand new one for the hell of it.

they run, but non-ethanol is what I use now in all my small engines...if they sit for any length of time they get gummed up and or deteriorate the lines etc and dont run.

I’ve never had more problems with a small engine than this damn saw. I’m still young so haven’t owned much but I’ll be sure to make sure if I ever get another saw it’s a professional grade Stihl

    Starting fluid is no go.

Before hand it was almost trying to catch. Now it’s not doing anything at all. I tried playing with the spark plug gapping but that had no effect.

Plug still getting wet after 1-2 pulls. Wonder if I should disconnect the lines and try pulling it with only starting fluid?
